A common mistake by companies that are new to hiring flexible legal talent, ALSPs, solo practitioners, etc. -- they often try to view their decision through the same lens they would a permanent hire.
There aren't many flex talent scenarios where hierarchical fit should weigh more heavily than the ability to ramp quickly and get the work done effectively and efficiently.
But won’t they get bored with the work? Not every legal professional has dreams of running a team. Many people in this space have chosen to focus on being great at day-to-day work in exchange for more freedom and flexibility.
Or will they cost too much? For a variety of reasons, more experienced candidates often have lower rate expectations than mid-level folks right out of big firms or their first in-house role.
If your team is hiring for an interim role or overflow project, factors that impact ramp time and reliability should weigh heavily -- things like previous interim experience, similar industry/company experience, attrition risk, and expertise in the particular area of need.
