Reframing life's challenges can help provide true perspective on what is of most value to you. I caught up today with a friend that I hadn't seen in over 10 years! The minute I saw him so many memories of the times we spent as teenagers together came flooding back. He still had the same infectious smile that I always remember he had. As we caught up, he shared openly some of the personal challenges he and his young family have had to continue to overcome. Without sharing all the details, they are challenges that would be too much to handle for most. Hearing how he has navigated it personally and more importantly, how it helped to shape the perspective he has around life, the importance of family and work was inspiring. I immediately realised how lucky I and my family are that we have not had to experience similar challenges. At the same time, I was envious of the conviction and sense of purpose for his life that he had. It's rare to talk to someone and literally feel the passion through their words. What made our connect even more impressive was hearing about how successful he had been over the last 10 years professionally. He has been in a mid-senior data, reporting and business performance leadership role with a major financial institution here in Melbourne and had impacted on significant transformational change throughout his career. Given everything, I struggled to comprehend how it was able to make it all work. It was a testament to the power his mindset engaging the roadblocks, challenges and curve balls that had been put in front of him. He framed it simply - you can either succumb or find a way to keep pushing forward. As it happens, we were catching up to not only reconnect but also because he was looking for advice on how to approach his job search given his role was recently made redundant. Given everything, I am keen to help as much as I can. So, if anyone in the network is interested in meeting someone who leads with purpose, drives business outcomes and understand how to deliver continuous business improvements in transformative environments through data/reporting and can find solutions in the face of adversity - let me know. 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐍𝐨.𝟏𝟕 When I 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞, the CEO of a renowned MNC posed a question that, at the time, 𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐧'𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐨𝐤𝐞 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐦𝐲 𝟐𝟐-𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫-𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟. He asked, "What crosses your mind when you wake up each morning, and 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐚𝐲❓" Reflecting on that now, my response lacked the depth of emotion that experience and time have since bestowed upon me. Back then, my answer was pragmatic, driven by youthful enthusiasm and a focus on the practical aspects of my role. Today, however, I recognize the emotional undercurrents that course through my daily engagement with my profession. Each morning, as I open my eyes to a new day, there's a sense of anticipation and passion that accompanies the thought of delving into the world of data. In planning my professional day, it's no longer just about meeting objectives or following a routine. It's a journey fueled by a deeper connection to the significance of my work. The intricate dance of data has become a canvas upon which I paint the story of insights and revelations. It's not merely a job; it's a vocation, an emotional investment in decoding the narratives hidden within the datasets. So, if that CEO were to pose the same question today, my response would resonate with a more mature and emotionally charged understanding of the profound relationship I share with my profession.
