Our latest article titled "Early-Onset Fetal Growth Restriction Increases Left Ventricular Sphericity in Adolescents Born Very Preterm" was published today in Pediatric Cardiology. In this paper we included adolescents born very preterm with and without early-onset fetal growth restriction. We implemented principal component analysis on manually delineated short-axis MR images of the left ventricle to determine the most explanatory modes (e.g. shape) in and across groups. We show that early onset fetal growth restriction increases left ventricular sphericity in adolescents born very preterm.

Delighted to announce the publication of my paper, "Methotrexate as The First-Line Treatment of Unruptured Tubular Ectopic Pregnancies," in the prestigious European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology: X (Cite Score: 4.7, Q1) by Elsevier. In our comprehensive retrospective cohort study, examining 184 cases of unruptured tubal Ectopic Pregnancy (EP) treated with Methotrexate (MTX), we implemented both single-dose (with an impressive 92.6% success rate) and double-dose (achieving an 81.3% success rate) regimens based on initial β-HCG levels. These findings present a compelling argument for considering MTX as a promising first-line treatment for hemodynamically stable tubal EPs with β-HCG>2000, urging a thoughtful reevaluation of existing guidelines. I extend my deepest gratitude to Dr. Azadeh Tarafdari for her unwavering support and invaluable insights throughout this project. I also want to express my sincere appreciation to Dr. Fatemeh Keikha, Dr. Shireen Shams Ardekani, Dr. Nikan Zargarzadeh, and Dr. Alireza Hadizadeh for their significant contributions and collaboration. LYSOSOMAL DISEASE NETWORK LONGITUDINAL STUDY OF THE MUCOPOLYSACCHARIDOSES Study Purpose: This research is being done to provide better information about how MPS diseases progress. Specifically, the study team wants to create a way to compare the results of new treatment options with those that already exist. Who can participate: • Participants diagnosed with any MPS disorder, including those who: o Have Hurler syndrome and have undergone a transplant o Have any MPS and are on any therapy, including ERT o Are not currently using any therapy • Willing to provide extra tissues collected during a clinically ordered surgical procedure (relevant to those undergoing surgery only) How long will the research last? We plan to follow you over time and expect that your participation in this research study will last at least 5 years, but possibly longer. However, you can decide to discontinue participation at any time. What will I need to do to participate? Taking part in this study does not require visits to our site. We will obtain all your information for this study from your medical record. For individuals with Essential Tremor or Parkinson’s Disease, loss of normal motor function can not only be physically debilitating, but also challenging to process emotionally. Recently, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a new form of treatment for drug-resistant Essential Tremor and Parkinson’s Disease called MRI-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS). MRgFUS is an incision-less, non-surgical procedure that is completed in one short outpatient appointment and offers immediate results. MRgFUS works by utilizing high-energy ultrasound beams to target and lesion the area of the brain that is responsible for the tremor. A unique aspect of the procedure is that it is completed while the patient is awake and without anesthesia. Prior to the procedure, the patient traces two spirals and lines. During the procedure, this exercise is repeated several times to ensure that the lesion is targeting the correct area. After, the patient completes the same drawing to demonstrate the improvement in their tremor. This marked change is depicted in the video. The results from the procedure are typically permanent, and patients see a meaningful reduction or complete elimination of their tremor. UCLA is the most experienced hospital in California that offers MRgFUS. MRgFUS is a joint effort between the departments of Neurosurgery and Neurology at UCLA, and Dr. Ausaf Bari, UCLA Neurosurgeon and Director of the Functional and Restorative Neurosurgery Program, performs the procedure. Since the guideline changes in 2011, studies have shown a drastic delay in VUR diagnosis, which is leading to more febrile UTIs and higher rates of renal scarring. How can we reverse this trend and ensure patients are seen by a pediatric urologist sooner?
