You are missing out on some AMAZING people if you disqualify them for not having a COLLEGE DEGREE. About 60% of employees don't have a bachelor's degree. I interviewed a candidate who blew me away with her experience, professionalism, and kindness. And guess what? She didn't have a college degree. She had an amazing background and many impressive achievements. If my client didn't interview candidates without a college degree, they would have passed on her and missed out on an AMAZING candidate. I am so glad that their company's culture doesn't disqualify candidates for not having college degrees. She had 2 interviews with the company, and they made her an offer immediately. By widening our hiring criteria, we invite more diverse candidates who can offer fresh perspectives and valuable skills to our organizations. ♻️ Repost if you agree ➕ Find this valuable? I was glad to see our HR team erased the degree requirement from many job descriptions. Don't misunderstand me--I believe in the value of a degree, but it is not an automatic qualifier. So often, the skills we use on the job are not those we spent money to acquire, but those we got paid to learn.
I completed 135 hours of a degree plan that required 121. Music Ed majors were required to student teach a long semester. Because I worked and put myself through college, I couldn't figure out a way to not work for 5 months, so I took extra classes. Now, I have a college education, but not a college degree.
So agreed. This is a hill I'm willing to die on.
Valid point!

3wI hired an outstanding employee who had no degree. The quality of her work was extraordinary and she thought outside the box. Ironically, other managers complimented me for “taking a chance” by foregoing the degree requirement.
