Despite its importance to the continuous casting process, mould fluxes have not attracted much attention from steelmakers and academicians alike. I was, therefore, delighted when Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. invited me to teach their industry professionals about mould fluxes. Last week, I conducted a two-day industrial training program on " Mould fluxes used in continuous casting of steel” at their Angul, Odisha location. About 25 people from various departments attended the training program. Thoroughly enjoyed the visit and the interactions with the course participants. Also, got a chance to visit their DRI plant which is fully operated by Syngas generated from coal gasification and has an annual production of ~2MMT I look forward to having such interactions with Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. in future.

Congratulations for conducting this! Mold fluxes are a big area of research and development for refractory manufacturers. Vesuvius is actively pushing the boundaries of this technology..

Yes! Mould Flux has been an important element for continuous casting (For slab, bloom & billet) casting in the recent days, though we started in 1996.But due importance could not be derived. In the present days with cut throat competition, it is definitely going to give results to have defect free (surface defect only) casting. However, the temperature in tundish & obviously the logistics play an important role.... It definitely not a linear equation. I appreciate the endeavors of JSPL👍
