“Be the Protagonist of Your Career” 9 years ago, I joined Hamburg Süd, which is now part of A.P. Moller - Maersk. At that time, I had no clue about the exponential and fulfilling learning curve I was embarking on. Over the course of my career, I had the opportunity to work in different roles and collaborate closely with amazing colleagues. One message from a mentor/leader (Gustavo Gorino) stayed with me: ‘Be the Protagonist of Your Career.’ 2 years ago, I made a significant decision— one I had dreamed of since joining the group in Brazil: having an opportunity to work abroad within Maersk. And here I am, working from Germany, in the Lead to Agreement team. I’m immensely grateful for the leaders and colleagues who have been part of my journey. As a personal note, it has been a voyage of learning, self-discovery, and new experiences (perhaps a topic for a future post) Here are some key takeaways: 1- Define a Goal: Having a clear goal is essential. 2- Choose a Company that Fosters Growth: I consider myself fortunate to work for a company like A.P. Moller - Maersk, which provides an environment conducive to personal and professional development. 3- Embrace Life’s Twists: Life isn’t a straight path; it’s filled with unexpected turns and heart-pounding moments. Embrace these twists—they reveal your resilience. 4 -Seek Allies: No hero stands alone. Find mentors, friends, and colleagues. Their presence enriches your journey. 5- Stay Humble: Always be open to learning. Exit Maersk / Enter Nilfisk I’m excited to share that I’m joining the Global Customer Insights team at Nilfisk. “What the heck is Nilfisk?”, some have asked me the past month as I told them about my next move. Or “I’m sure it’s an exciting opportunity since you’ve accepted it”, said with a hint of question mark at the end. Ok, let’s get the facts right, then the reason why this role feels just right.   Nilfisk is a leading company within professional cleaning equipment. It’s a Danish company, with an international culture and a broad global presence (first ✔ ).   Then: ☑ I’ll be joining a small team with big ambitions. The company is at an exciting point, more eager than ever to build products and experiences that actually fit into the worlds of their users (think Tetris, it’s all about spotting the relevant empty slots instead of forcing your T-shaped block into a square-spaced free spot - thanks Jimmy Ege Pedersen for that analogy) ☑ The chance to turn insights into action faster than I’ve been used to, thanks to a short distance between the insights team and the product and customer experience teams ☑ A physical product you can actually see in action. And where there’s an opportunity to make users’ work lives easier and less physically straining. ☑ The fact that my new team buys into my broader skillset (back to making work cross paths with words)   And oh, I really look forward to also do some onsite fieldwork after a bit of an overdose on virtual user interviews the past couple of years. “You’ll get to see places like the ‘Glostrup of Paris’”, my new boss Martin Troelsgaard laughingly said when we talked about fieldwork (those of you in Denmark will understand that this is not exactly a positive thing).   Here’s my POV: nothing beats being out there with the people who actually use the product and see how the product fits (or doesn’t) into the users’ lives. And as for the Glostrup of Paris: It’s all about being appreciative of the quirky sides of life.   Finally, thanks to all the people who have offered their support, network, and perspective these past couple of months. During a 4-month sabbatical last summer, I had the opportunity to sail on the Tres Hombres, a unique engine-less cargo ship. It was a month of slowing down, finding inspiration, and discovering another new perspective after walking the Camino to Santiago de Compostela. As I sailed through the Biscay Bay, gazing up at the starry sky at night and spotting whales, I learned all about sailing the ship and how to climb to its extremities (ja ja). From the sea, I saw "Land-life" in a different way and realized the impact of our hectic lives on the planet. As a leader in logistics and supply chain, this experience has ignited my enthusiasm to make a substantial and positive impact on our planet in the years to come. What I like about logistics.   1) Opportunity to meet people from all over the world. It’s amazing how much you get to know someone just by organizing a pick up together while you, your partner and the driver are all located in 3 different time zones 🚛   2)    Using my geography knowledge 🌏 And people think what you learn in school is useless. I did geography homework for myself AND for my friends. It’s finally paying off 😊   3)    Sense of wonder ✨ For example, CMA CGM changed ETA of my containers 4 times in a span of 3 days. Now I sit and wonder… Why?))   4)    Sense of adventure 🐲 D&D is nothing compared to setting a fast (and don’t forget affordable) route for your client in all the geopolitical obstacles of modern world. Why can’t everyone just get along?     5)    Meetings ☕ Controversial, I know. But with our team, it’s always that shot of motivation you need on a Monday afternoon.
