Series: Green Hydrogen NATIONAL GREEN HYDROGEN MISSION Motive: To make India a global hub for production, utilization and export of Green Hydrogen & its derivatives. Stated on Jan 4th 2K23, in a Union Cabinet, chaired by Hon'ble PM Shri Narendra Modi, approved this revolutionary mission. It emerged as the ray of hope for multiple sectors, as the Mission projects in a wide range of benefits e.g., initiation of export opportunities for Green Hydrogen/ Decarbonization pf industrial, energy & mobility sectors/ depletion in dependence on the import of fossil fuels/ Vocal for Local (indigenous production)/ employment opportunities & last but the not the least, enhancement of cutting-edge technologies. The production of Hydrogen in India is supposed to reach at a certain level of 5 MMT yearly. The Mission shall then gradually ease the demand creation which in turn will have a good impact on the production levels of Green Hydrogen, to utilization & export. With SIGHT (Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition) Programme, a couple of well-defined financial incentive mechanisms which are focusing on the indigenous process of electrolysis & the production of Green Hydrogen, will also be provided under the Mission. Despite of all the above, the Mission will support multiple sectors. Also, those regions which will have a larger scale Green Hydrogen production shall be named as Green Hydrogen Hubs and will get more development tools as well. Conclusion: In a result of such efforts & Plan of Execution we have come to the expected outcomes: 1. Development of Green Hydrogen at a certain level of 5 MMT yearly with an associated energy capacity addition of approximately 125 GW in the Nation. 2. As states in the earlier series as well, it'll boom the employment potential with a creation of over 6 lacs jobs. 3. A massive reduction in the import of fossil fuels as well. 4. Majorly per annum, 50 MMT of carbon emissions are expected to stave off through the production & utilization of Green Hydrogen. Can India drive on green hydrogen fuel in future? A govt pilot project aims to tell... India is taking significant steps towards adopting green hydrogen as a fuel for transportation, with pilot projects funded by the government to assess technical and economic feasibility. These projects aim to identify operational challenges, technology readiness, and infrastructure requirements. The government has allocated Rs 496 crore for these projects until 2026 under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The initiative includes the establishment of green hydrogen refueling stations and aims to reduce carbon emissions from the transport sector, which accounts for 40% of India's total CO2 emissions. Private sector involvement, such as L&T's green hydrogen plant and MAN Industries' safe hydrogen transportation technology, indicates growing interest and progress in the sector. Despite challenges, such as limited availability of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, public-private partnerships and international collaborations are expected to drive advancements in this area, with investment in research and development crucial for enhancing efficiency and reducing production costs. #greenenergy #greenhydrogen #india #greenindia
