This is #bitspilani - one of India’s premier engineering institutions. Pilani and it’s nearby villages in district Jhunjhinu in Rajasthan have produced some of India’s greatest entrepreneurs - Birlas, Bajaj, Mittals, Piramals. There is something special about this part of India. How do we create an environment in our colleges that allow students and faculty to leverage education into innovation? How do we ensure that education is made richer and experiential by providing infrastructure and systems to put theory into practice? How do we allow young people to experiment, to iterate, to fail and maybe, just maybe find a new solution, product or service that can provide a meaningful benefit to people and society? How do we create the new generation of entrepreneurs to tackle the new opportunities and challenges? Innovation is the lifeblood of human and economic progress. This is why I am so excited to make a small contribution to building a state of the art Centre for Innovation at my Alma Mater Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani. Separately BITS has announced that its students and faculty can take a year off to pursue their ideas I hope that these initiatives will help foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in the campus and BITS Pilani continues to be a preferred choice for young women and men to learn, to experiment and in this process discover their true calling https://lnkd.in/dKECjT5V
The effect of universities is best understood by the impact it has on the surrounding area. Stanford played an instrumental role in San Francisco becoming a renowned tech cluster, while Harvard et al. were instrumental in turning New England into the buzzing hotspot that it is today (despite inclement weather). I find this lacking sorely in India, some of the oldest and most respected institutions have inadvertently ended up becoming talent vacuums that nurture talent in one place and funnel them into others (metro cities, foreign universities, etc.) I believe correcting that would be the key to unlocking the next phase of (equitable) growth.
For my nephew who is studying there currently, BITS is the foundation for making his dreams come true. What you are doing is continuing to nurture the dreams of many young women and men who will study there and hopefully go on to make the world a better place with their ideas coming to life.
Great contribution Rajesh, I was at The BGM when we saw you making the announcement. Appreciate the humility with which you gave such a large amount. Loss of words.
A gesture like this benefits so many down the line. Proud to see our Alumni's contribution to the ecosystem.
This is really amazing and hopefully will be a catalyst for the generations to come who will have the chance to study in this centre. We were privileged working with a leader like you …
Congratulations 👏 Rakesh! All of us should support our alma maters to enhance the capacity to nurture more talent in future
The best thing i like about BITS Pilani, it encourages entrepreneurship and provides resources and support to students who want to start their own businesses. The university also has a diverse student body, with students from all over India and abroad, and a vibrant campus life with a range of extracurricular activities and clubs.
Very kind initiative. I am sure your act of philanthropy will do tremendous good to a generation of students and inspire more to come forward and give back to their alma mater!
