I heard something that caught my attention in the radio, "An excellent #worker is one who successfully used all their annual leaves" And I thought to myself, huh, that's an interesting phrase, which continues, "...because they are able to #balance between their work and themselves and still completed their job successfully" And I immediately nodded, agreeing subconsciously. You might be #working too hard. You might not be spending enough time with your family. You might be neglecting your own health. All for the sake of your #job. You sacrifice yourself too much not knowing it'll take a heavy toll on your life outside of work. Take some leave. Be with your family an friends. Be with yourself. Bosses and managers, when somebody takes a #leave well within their rights, do not punish them in any way. Some held off their well-deserved raise, score their performance lower, and put them further down the #promotion list. And employees, be responsible when you take one. Do not let others suffer when you leave a vacuum. Plan your leave and make sure everything is in good hands. People will be more receptive of you and it goes without saying that working in an at least non-hostile environment is good for us. Signing off! (with still 2 digits of leave entitlement days)

Know your worth

Don’t get fooled that it’s okay to get underpaid. IT’S NOT. The HR mantra “People don’t leave jobs because of the money.. They leave because of bad management” is a load of crap! For most of us, an extra few hundreds isn’t just money. Everytime we settle for less pay, we’re not just leaving money behind. We’re leaving our dreams, our future and our family’s wellbeing on that table. Bottom line: Don’t ever let anyone make you feel guilty for wanting what you are worth.

Life can be messy and unpredictable, and from time-to-time, an injury, personal crisis or illness can take us out of action. But at these times, bills still need to be paid, the families must be cared for and work continues. Ill-health, in whatever form it takes, is a great challenge and cost for the individual, family and friends it affects, as well as for businesses who rely on and value that person’s work. Your employer is not your family or friends. Your personal life is none of their business. I suggest you keep it that way. If you need to share your life with someone, make it someone other than people at work. Best case they make believe they care, worst case they’ll use it against you. I have heard way too many stories of sharing important personal information to then have it used against them at work. ❌ Men telling their manager about a pregnancy at 3 months to be terminated weeks later before any official paperwork is completed. ❌ Sharing news of putting a down payment on a home purchase to then be terminated before the mortgage is approved. ❌ Sharing of an ill parent in hospice who needs support, to be terminated before their leave can be arranged. ❌ Sharing to a best bud co-worker that you are changing jobs to have management find out about it and steam roll your plans. ❌ Taking extended time off for a honeymoon to be PIP’d just before and have the PTO time count toward your PIP time to be terminated a few weeks after your return. I have consulted with people who have experienced this treatment and many others with equally disturbing treatment. It is sad to say but I can confidently do it, some employers target employees when they are most vulnerable. When they are down and out and less likely to do something about it. When they must focus their attention on their personal matters over the anxiety provoking mind games and gaslighting employers play. Limit the information you share with your employer. Share what you must when you must.
