June 16th. was World Domestic Workers Day. This is a small tribute to Mala and Premila and Bishu and Laladas Mumtaz and Asha who work in our homes, cook our food, clean our bathrooms, walk our dogs, and generally make life so much easier for us. At a cost that is really not quite proportionate to the satisfaction and ease we derive from them. They notice how we spend on 'non-essentials' and how we baulk at their requests for an advance or a loan. They know our company drivers and peons get Sundays off, PF, gratuity, leave salary, medical benefits and many of our domestic workers don't. Specially the part-timers. Let's not be 'part-time' in our care for them. Let's pledge to care for their health, treat them well, try and ensure their children are educated, and their future is secure. After all charity begins at home. If you agree, let's have a thumbs up.

You are absolutely right, it's so important to take care of them, our maid didn't  know anything about Government Yojanas which are in their interest as educated citizens if we find out more information on the policies which will impact them the way we find out ways to save taxes to have more in our account it can make a big difference in their life oir small actions can go a long way Thank you Sir for taking the lead. You are like the Moon who  lightens up the Sky through inclusivity

Only Rhetoric from politicians and bureaucrats on many campaigns to recognise it as a organised sector. Why are these women equally capable talented but poor, who toiled in our homes while our women born lucky, can go to work leaving home chores child care to our domestic help. Yet are deprived of basic perks and facilities like weekly off, PL or EL, medical ,PF, safety from racial and sexual abuse segregation at the same work place where they cook the food wash cloths make bed but not allowed to eat the same food ,similar plates, same toilet! their children though better off on education do not get any stable job or quality of life as our children. Children of lesser God... they continue to suffer silently. Ramesh i appeal to you to support the DWRU and Stree Jagruti Samiti NGO. I can help.

One may not be able to provide PF, gratuity etc to domestic help, but one can treat them well as a member of the family , give them a day of weekly off and share their joys and sorrows.
