😎 I have always been passionate about new technologies that make train travel more attractive and our mobility more sustainable. In my youth, the introduction of high-speed trains in France ushered in the renaissance of train travel in Europe. Today I had the privilege to be part of the first presentation to the general public of the Stadler #FLIRTAkku battery trains 🔋 for Schleswig-Holstein. They will be the first fleet of battery trains in passenger service worldwide. Battery trains are a big milestone towards decarbonization because they replace polluting diesel trains on non-electrified lines . They also offer a much quieter and more comfortable ride for passengers. Those are crucial elements to improve train travel and attain a more sustainable mobility 🚆 💚.

The section between Tamsalu and Tartu will be served by buses from July 2nd to 4th, leading to longer trip durations. 3⃣Train tickets can be purchased online and on-board. However, 1st class tickets should be bought several days before to ensure assigned seat. 4⃣Another option is to use the buses, which run every 30 minutes. Europe is soon to have its own Urban Mobility Strategy, a framework long-awaited by the whole shared mobility industry! I’m hopeful that with the new framework we’ll be permanently saying goodbye to outdated regulation like:  🚩 private hire vehicles (PHV) needing to return to their ‘garage’ in between rides 🚩 cars under 4.9 metres not allowed to operate as PHVs 🚩 60 minute breaks between PHV rides 🚩 PHVs restricted to limited geographical areas, while traditional taxies are not 🚩 carpool lanes reserved for taxies, but not for PHVs 🚩 price caps applied to PHVs 🚩 quotas imposed to PHVs, i.e 1 PHV to 30 taxis 🚩 lengthy and complicated driver permit and examination processes With all the data available on shared mobility’s impact on connectivity to public transportation and multimodality, the support and strategic approach from Brussels is a welcomed step in the right direction!
