Low-Intensity Light Therapy: An Innovative Treatment Aiding in Brain Injury Recovery #Science never ceases to amaze! The latest research reveals the extraordinary potential of low-intensity light therapy, specifically 810nm wavelength light, in treating severe brain injuries. 🧠💡 In a groundbreaking study conducted by the expert team at Massachusetts General Hospital, light therapy was administered to 38 brain injury patients. The results? A significant increase in #brain functional connectivity. This suggests that we may have uncovered a new, non-invasive method to aid brain injury patients in their recovery journey. Imagine a gentle light penetrating your skull and directly influencing your brain. This is achieved with near-infrared light, delivered to the brain via a specially designed #helmet. Using functional magnetic resonance imaging (#fMRI), researchers assessed the effects of light therapy, focusing primarily on functional connectivity in the resting state of the brain. The results were inspiring: patients receiving light therapy showed significantly greater functional connectivity in the acute to subacute recovery stages compared to the control group. 🌈 As Dr. Gupta confidently states, "This therapy could potentially have a therapeutic effect on many neurological disorders, including #PTSD, #depression, and #autism." That day was NOT a good day… https://lnkd.in/e939ZNZC Dr. Dre says he suffered three strokes while being hospitalized for a brain aneurysm and was in the ICU for 2 weeks. Thank goodness he made a full recovery! 🙏 More and more younger adults are suffering from strokes than ever before. The Hyperfine Swoop portable MRI system can be used for situations just like this in #stroke follow up and many other use cases in the #ICU. Oftentimes, patients in the #ICU are on ventilators, multiple pumps and drips, pressors, etc and the risk of transporting them to the MRI suite for additional brain imaging is fraught with risk for both patients and their care teams. At some hospitals we’ve worked with, their MRI suites were a 30 minute perilous trip to the MRI suite, including multiple elevators, not including the time it takes to pack the patient up, wait for additional help, change pumps and drips to MRI safe pumps, flush meds, and start the process over again for the trip back after the scan. Oftentimes, ICU patients are only scanned overnight. As in 8pm-5am. Tragically last week I heard of two patients who coded while getting an MRI. Adult car occupants, with neck problems after rear-end collisions, were investigated in a study on Whiplash-Associated Disorders (WAD) in 1997-2001. The study protocol included a neurological examination, plain radiography and MRT of the cervical spine, and a lumbar puncture for Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) within six weeks after the accident. Similar CSF samples were also taken three and twelve months later. All CSF samples were analyzed for NFL. Of 52 subjects who entered the study, 43 completed it. The WAD grade was I in two of the 43 cases, II in 13, and III in 28.
