Humanitarian response attempts face many challenges and obstacles, but despite all these challenges, grassroots and social initiatives such as emergency rooms, hospices, and charity kitchens - with the support of philanthropists and some organizations - continue to provide food aid to many citizens exposed to hunger and diseases resulting from malnutrition. In the (A Corridor Saves a Soul) campaign, we repeat the call to donors, organizations and interested parties for more support, and to the Sudanese government to open corridors and facilitate procedures for the passage of aid, and to all parties to the conflict to facilitate passage, so that we avoid the catastrophe of famine. #A passage that saves a soul

As of Wednesday morning, more than 6,000 Libyans have died after torrential rains flooded the city of Derna, Libya, earlier this week. Libyan authorities estimate that 25 to 45 percent of the city’s population is missing or displaced. During the brutal two-year conflict in Tigray, Ethiopia, we were able to support our partner organisation, the Daughters of Charity, to distribute vital food aid to 30,000 internally displaced people sheltering in camps across the capital city. Haiti is remaining in a long-standing political, security and humanitarian crisis. Last year, there was an outbreak of cholera. More than half of Haitians are chronically food insecure, and 22 percent of children are chronically malnourished. Over a third of the population lacks access to clean water and two-thirds have limited or no sanitation service. Gang violence and the cholera outbreak may keep over 2.4 million children out of classrooms, UNICEF warned. Our hearts are with Haiti. The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) has found that 25.6 million people across #Sudan will likely experience high levels of acute food insecurity (IPC Phase 3 or above) between June and September 2024.    We must not forget that this is also a child protection crisis. When food is scarce and families are forced to flee their homes, children, especially girls, are often at greater risk of gender-based violence and being taken out of school. To save as many lives as possible, all forms of humanitarian support must be scaled up, now. And most crucially, NGOs need unimpeded humanitarian access to all communities, across all of Sudan, so that we can reach children and their families.
