Drove by the Dallas home we left 5 years ago to move to Baja. It brought back a lot of thoughts and feelings. → Stressful board meetings. → Long commutes and traffic. → Running a race I couldn’t win. → Building other people’s dreams. → Putting mine on hold till I was 60. → And having everything I ever wanted. → But realizing it wasn’t really what I needed. That’s why we chose the nuclear option. Packing everything up and moving to a remote Mexican beach. And trusting that I’d figure the money thing out. 😳 Maybe I could’ve started with a side hustle. But looking back, I doubt it. I had options that were too tempting. And roles that were too demanding. So, for me, straddling wouldn’t have worked. I don’t say that to preach “this is the way.” I say that to preach, “find your way.” And to caution you against waiting. Because time waits for no one. Build towards your dream. Finding your way is monumental! Your comment makes me think of so many who have expressed their cataclysmic life changing choices; often accompanied by major geographic changes like yours. What I wonder, is whether it might not be an option to merely change one’s mindset in the same cataclysmic way—but staying right where you are. I believe the mental aspect of these changes are the most significant and satisfying ones. Sometimes, in my divorce practice, I notice folks have recently bought a new house, moved to a new area, or had a baby in order to “save” the marriage. New beginnings can have that goal. But often the problem is larger. One of the problems with moving is that wherever you go—there you are. Relocation alone is not really the answer. I think we all yearn for a clean slate and starting over. But, today, how about we clean the slate, forget about past disappointments and failures, and start fresh—right where we are! Here’s to renewing our minds, every day, starting now. All my best!

Indeed time waits for no one, Ray. Nobody gets to their deathbed saying they're sorry for trying so many things. But plenty of people get there with regrets for the things they did not try.
