I just needed extra cash to spend during the weekend But my mum wouldn't have it, why do I want to waste her hard earned money when she already provided everything I needed? but I kept disturbing her every weekend because my friends had extra cash to buy whatever they wanted during the weekends and I wanted mine too... So, my mum adviced me to save 10-20 percent of my daily allowance then use it for the weekend, instead of disturbing her every weekend for extra cash that she wasn't going to give me, and honestly I'd say that it was a great idea because, I could now afford my weekend frivolities, all I needed to do was pinch a little from my money for snacks every day for 5 days and I'm good to go😁 Why did I tell you this story? Because nothing is as sweet as rewarding yourself after a long month or year of grinding hard to make your business work, a lot of times you must just make those investments sacrificially, even if it means not having enough money to use on yourself for the whole month... My kids owe me $15,000 each. They’re all under 10 years old. Growing up poor exposed me to the realities of life sooner than most. My path: From near homelessness to starting my dream business. Eight years ago, I left home right after high school. I flew to Germany. learned the language, and worked all kind of jobs to save money for uni. Just as I started university and thought life was finally looking up, COVID hit. The restaurant closed,i had zero income and was not able to afford rent and university fees anymore, I was about to losing everything—my home, my university spot, everything. → Facing eviction and unable to pay for school, I felt like giving up. ↳ But I didn’t. → After graduating, I worked in great positions in different agencies and production companies. ↳ Yet, something was missing. It didn’t feel right just working for others; I needed to start my own thing. Now, I’ve launched my own business, using every lesson learned from those times to guide me. ↳ My journey hasn’t been easy, but every struggle has been worth it. As a child, I used to find ways to earn pocket money. One of the ways I did this was by helping my grandad clean his cars. Over the years, he taught me three valuable lessons that I still live by today. 1. If I give you a call and ask you to come round and clean the car at 10:30 on a Saturday morning, make sure you show up at 10:15. "On time is late." 2. Always go above and beyond in your work. Even if someone asks you to do something specific, find ways to exceed their expectations. If I ask you to only clean the outside of the car, regardless of the specifics of the request, you go above and beyond. Clean the inside of the sills of the doors, hoover the matts and inside of the car, throw away any rubbish, and hang up a new freshener (if you have one handy). 3. And finally, don't worry about money upfront. Focus on doing quality work, and the rewards will come. People will pay you what you are worth. Each time I would go back and clean the car until it was spotless. Lo and behold, each time my pocket money increased! (He even let me keep the change I found hidden under the seats and between the creases) These lessons have stuck with me throughout my life, and I apply them to everything I do. By making a good impression and doing quality work, I've been able to succeed in both my personal and professional life. And I'm always learning and improving, striving to be the best version of myself. The truth is in western culture, we’ve adopted this “work till you drop-dead” mentality that benefits no one long-term, and especially not our children! The Western world has become so comfortable with chasing the next $$, that so many people have forgotten about the things really matter! We all need money! Money is a powerful tool! BUT … Trading memories for money has proven to not lead to a fulfilling, happy life! Look, the truth is that you and I are going to die one day Of course, we hope that that one day is many years from now and on our terms. But that isn’t fully in your control or mine. We don’t know when that last day will come, so the mistake that many people are making is prioritizing money over time spent with our spouse and children. Especially with our children! Our kids won’t care whether or not we came home with an extra $10K All the nice branded clothes, the food, the nice cars, or the best schools, cannot and will not replace quality time with our kids. My two year-old son may not be old enough to remember me taking time out of my day to go on a walk with him, but I’ll remember that. And I can show him the memory through a beautiful thing called, pictures. And pictures, are priceless! When he’s older, and is able to remember the time that I spent with him, it’ll then matter for both of us. Think about some of the best memories you’ve had with your father or mother, when you were a child. Those memories were likely related to nothing to do with money. They were simple moments.
