I wrote this 12 years ago. I’d just gotten back from a vacation in my corporate role. And I was basically saying: “Glad I got to just spend some time doing what I really wanted to do. I wish I could do more of that. And I’d like to do it by a beach. But that’s not possible, so back to the grind I go.” And here’s the thing: When I wrote it, I thought the recipe for life was: → Do work you have to do to get paid. → Save and invest your money for 40 years. → 40 years later, finally get to live life you really want. But I was wrong. Because making money doing what I wanted to do, and doing it from wherever I wanted, was absolutely possible anytime I made the decision to get started. I just didn’t know it. Friendly reminder for anyone going back to places they don’t want to be right now. 🏝
We don’t have to wait until retirement to live the life we want. It’s all about making that decision to start now, and creating a lifestyle that aligns with what truly makes us happy.
Thanks for sharing this reflection! It’s incredible how perspectives shift over time. Many of us follow the traditional path of working hard for decades before truly living, but it’s empowering to realize that pursuing our passions and creating the life we want is possible at any moment. Have you found a way to align your work with what you love?
If only 2012 Ray knew what 2024 Ray was up to... lol
I think many people underestimate how soon this can happen. Less than a year for me.
Ha. What a great find. And congrats on your early "retirement."
"Past Ray" was planting the seeds for "Future Ray" to figure it out!
Great share Ray J. Green
Well done!

1moIt's easy to fall into the trap of thinking that work is just a means to an end, but we spend a significant portion of our lives working. So why not make it something that brings us joy and fulfillment? It may take some time and effort, but it's worth it in the end.
