Are you making videos or are videos making you (go crazy)? Here are two video making rules that every should be following. Or breaking. Choose your own adventure, I guess 1. The 180 Degree Rule When filming two people having dialogue (looking at you, LinkedIn skit creators), you don't want the camera to pass an imaginary line that runs through the two characters Stay on one side on an arch to get the two angles Breaking this rule disorients viewers from where you are, what's going on, and who's talking 2. 30% When changing a shot, while keeping the same subject, the shot needs to change by 30% So think for talking heads: Scale your clips from 100% to 130% And this is a general guideline, so maybe you decide a 120% scale works But, 100% -> 103% definitely won't work Okay, now that you're a video making master, go have fun 🤙

The most frustrating part about business content over the last few years is watching self-proclaimed grammar nazis break the "grammatical" rules of non-written mediums. Which is to say more folks need to learn how to use the mediums they're producing and this type of content is invaluable.

Is it weird if you sit in front of the camera, black out, wake up in a pool of your own sweat and tears, but somehow when you look over the the content it's coherent enough to post on LinkedIn? Asking for a friend.

I think when it comes to UGC you can break so many rules! 😜💃🏾 I studied Film so of course the 180 degree rule was burned into our brains! I think with most consumers consuming videos at different aspect ratios on their phones vs the traditional 4x3 or 16x9 there is a lot of room to play around with this!

LinkedIn people are going to be filmmakers when you're through with them. One of my favorite explanations of the 180° is in Paprika. Your motion graphic is perfect!
