THE IMPORTANCE OF PR IN SOCIAL CARE! 📸 They say a picture speaks a thousand words and the picture below doesn’t disappoint. ⍰ So I may ask you what comes to mind when you see this picture? Before you answer that, I will give you some background: 🏆 Wednesday night saw the HealthInvestor Awards take place at the prestigious JW Marriott Grosvenor House London 🏥 The room sponsored by Knight Frank brought together major players, movers and shakers investing £💲€ time and expertise across #HealthAndSocialCare 😎 With a room full, 1000+ Dressed up to show that this sector should be taken seriously (Politicians take note!) #HealthIsWealth this industry plays a big part with our lives from the banking, construction, care providers, technology, lawyers and health. 🎤 Led by actor and comedian Stephen Mangan on the night he let it be known, you should make the most of your celebrations on the night - he then sadly showed us pictures going as far back as his childhood of how unlucky he has been and then he finally won an award (and now carries it everywhere 😂) 🙌🏿 So many great winners on the night with a lifetime achievement award for Harry Hyman one thing brings me back to the question of what the picture below means? 📰 Health and especially Social Care is such an important industry, but is only taken seriously by the public when they need us. PR is one of the major ways to let the public know of what happens both in front and behind the scenes. 🤵🏾This picture below shows the winner of the PR category Prosperwell (formerly Smooth Digital) well done to Tobi Alli-Usman 💚 and his team. Apart from the obvious (two well dressed black males) the company were winners of the award amongst multi-million pound organisations. 📈 My biggest take home and the PR story is how inclusive we can be and how Allyship is so important: Tobi (on the right) invited one of his new team members Samuel Miller to experience of what being in such a room, an awards event can bring. This is absolutely inspiring for his colleague and an added bonus of enjoying winning on the night. ❤️ PR isn't just about the big stories but the small impactful stories of smaller companies, groups, people bringing success and allowing the workplace to be part of it, this is the essence of health and social care, an 'experience' 👍🏿 I was there representing Care Vision thanks Kirsty Parks Nexus Media Group for the invite, it was great to meet many guests and peers on the night congrats to all the winners. It's been a great week for beauty networking in NYC...and it's only Wednesday! On Monday, I attended The Beauty Social x The Beauty Loop - if you work in beauty, particularly in the marketing or comms space, you MUST check out both. Stacey Levine and Lauren Ludlow host incredible curated happy hours each month with The Beauty Social, where I've met so many wonderful industry and industry-adjacent people. It's the most relaxed, least network-y networking event I've attended - in the BEST way! The Beauty Loop is a subscriber newsletter by editor and writer Erica R. Metzger, which connect beauty PR pros and beauty editors via editor call-outs, editor Q&As and insights on how they prefer to work with PR agencies, calendar listings for PR agencies to list client events, and more! And last night, CEW (Cosmetic Executive Women) hosted another amazing DEI&B Panel at Kargo, with speakers Helen N. of Prose and Bee Shapiro of Ellis Brooklyn. There were too many inspiring takeaways to list them all, but some key ones include: Take care of your personal self As a founder or leader, your internal life is crucial to how you show up in business. Work/life balance sadly isn't much of a thing, so if you want to be healthy in all areas of your life, you MUST prioritize your life outside of work. Your unique voice is so valuable We all show up with different experiences, and they are all uniquely beautiful. Don't be afraid to be your honest self, and to bring your lived experience and perspective to the table. Leadership requires action If you're leading a department or company, it's on you to ensure that your team feels safe and valued. You need to create a culture of inclusivity that goes beyond lip service, but truly encompasses asking questions of your team members, getting their feedback, and building initiatives that will actually serve them. Stay Relevant 🫥🫥🫥🫥🙂🫥🫥🫥🫥 While post covid era is known for its work life imbalance, burnout, reduced free time, increased stress levels & decreased physical activities, staying relevant for someone who works for 11-12 hours a day is taught to be a byproduct of the number of hours spent at work 🤦🏻🤔 While this may sound very simple, spending 9 hours in the ground everyday doesn’t necessarily make you the best athlete in the team. In a team sport, it is critical to stay relevant by bringing in your ‘A’ game in front of your coach or the selector 🤼⛹️♀️🤺🤾🏾♂️🏇🏻 How does one stay relevant? 🎖️ 1. Existence is not all about having your employee id in the company records. Existence is also about your audience (managers, customers, peers, team members or other stakeholders) acknowledging your presence 🤝 2. Communication is key to stay relevant. Even a simple “I don’t know” or “let me come back to you” can make you stay relevant. Going silent will put you further down the pecking order of relevance 👍👎 3. You could be the best performer in your team. Staying relevant is not a birth right, it may require some self branding regardless of your performances. Ensure your achievements reach the right audience (managers, customers or other key stakeholders). There is nobody better than you to brand your existence in the system 🤹♀️🎭🚨 4. Relevance can also be built through seasonal greetings, a simple “hi” once in a while won’t harm 🙋♀️🙋🙋♂️ 5. Face recognition is also key for relevance. How can one by switching off camera on Teams / Google meet stay relevant. Be the first one to switch on camera. Be seen & heard 👨🏻🦱👩🏻🦰👨🏽🦰👩🏽🦱🧓🏻🧔🏼♀️ Numbers & performances may not always be consistent. Life. In and outside of work – takes a collection of people to make it successful, happy and to fulfil the mission. When it comes to championing your company’s employer brand and EVP, the most effective and authentic way to make that happen – the community of colleagues, the power of your own people. But how? Don’t take for granted that people KNOW how to promote the business and showcase the culture. Sometimes, you must show them what and how. Consider creating multipurpose content for targeted audiences that everyone shares. Educate them on when and how to post to optimise the reach. Give them the room to tailor and even create content themselves. Challenge them with an idea, guide them and nurture their own creativity. No one wants to yawn through the same post and stock images that everyone in a company spontaneously posts on the same day. Do they? Get your people EXCITED! Yes, literally about the mission, the values and what it means to THEM. Extend and remind them of accountability and the privilege of talking to their networks about what they do and where they do it. Share the cool. Engage your colleagues to walk the line between a balanced structure of: here’s a calendar where we structure posts and talk specifically about certain topics, certain days, but give them free rein to ambassador and be excited in their own way and in their own feed. #balancingact Recognise and give acclaim to your people, individually and collectively for social media posts, well done – demonstrate the effect that THEY are having on the group objective, give kudos and acknowledge their creativity and collaboration.
