So on this side of a the world a lot of us are headed to Melbourne International Games Week and there's a lot of work going in from almost every screen agency in the region to promote their goals. As they should all be doing. But a word to the wise, go past the headline figures and dollar yield amounts if you're looking at setting up a studio somewhere. If you're looking at rebates, what's the detail on inclusion list? How onerous is the reporting? Same goes for grants, what does the process look like, more than just the cap on yield? Are there additional services? Travel grants that can help get you to the events you need to be at and are they flexible enough to get you to an event that might be perfectly appropriate for you, but not one of the usual ones? As for the entities driving all the mechanisms, do the people you're talking to with the programs have actual industry experience and if so, how much? What wrap-around services do they provide? What are the mentorship programs like and do they provide regular workshops for upskilling you and your staff? What are the possibilities they can get you onto showcases at major events? My personal opinion is sometimes us that work in games stimulus focus on everything about the dollars and forget about the ecosystem and if it's someone scouting for a location to set up- particularly as a small or medium studio, that ecosystem matters. For us in our place in Aotearoa, we don't have the dollars to spend that some larger programs have, but we *always* think about the ways we can make the money we spend more effective and how we can invest in people and skills rather than just projects.

Announcement! We just launched our pre-sale. If you want to look into the project a bit more and or take part in the pre-sale you can check out our webpage at https://triolith.com there you can also read our litepaper. (Linkedin refuses Juicebox links for some reason so go via our webpage) Triolith Games is developing the Genesis Engine, a Web3 gaming eco-system and infrastructure for game developers and gamers with a few unique features such as acting like a custodian for the game devs when it comes to regulations, pre-made loot and economy systems. And for the gamers it's a place to find games, buy & sell nft's but the main selling point is that we help them with their taxes and we are also the only gaming infra that will have a SAFU fund. We are still in an early phase but have a very bold vision! #cryptocurrency #web3gaming #blockchaingaming #presale #tokenlaunch

Sony Made a Grave Million-Dollar Mistake In 2024❗ Understanding Your Community 👨👨👦👦 Is Crucial in 2024. 🎯 Here's a breakdown of why 🗂: The recent controversy surrounding #Sony's decision to mandate #PSN account linking for Helldivers 2 on Steam offers valuable #insights into the importance of #community #communication and understanding. Community backlash can be devastating: Negative reviews within days. Helldivers 2's Steam reviews went from overwhelmingly positive to overwhelmingly negative due to player outrage. This significantly damages the game's reputation and discourages potential buyers. Collateral Damage: The backlash wasn't limited to Helldivers 2. Players also review-bombed the original Helldivers, demonstrating the interconnectedness within a #gaming community. Refunds and delistings: The controversy led to player demands for refunds and the game's delisting in some regions due to PSN inaccessibility. Communication is key: Had #Sony or the #developers clearly communicated the rationale behind the PSN linking requirement and its proposed implementation timeline, the backlash might have been mitigated. Listening to concerns: Ignoring internal concerns about negative player reactions was a major misstep. Anticipating and addressing community anxieties is crucial. Alternatives and Flexibility: If the PSN linking was truly necessary, exploring alternative solutions or offering exceptions for regions without PSN access could have avoided the crisis. The Power of Community Engagement: Mobilization and Action. Helldivers 2's community manager, while unconventional, effectively used Steam reviews to voice player discontent and force a change. This highlights the power of a mobilized gaming community. Building trust: Being positive and proactive #engagement with the community fosters trust and loyalty. Sony's eventual reversal, while reactive, can be seen as a step towards rebuilding that trust. The Helldivers 2 situation serves as a cautionary tale for any #company interacting with #online #communities. By prioritizing clear communication, addressing concerns, and fostering trust, companies can avoid similar controversies and build stronger relationships with their customers and audience. This ultimately benefits everyone—developers, publishers, and, most importantly, the players themselves. #SonyHelldivers2 #MarketingStrategy #BusinessLeadership #BrandGrowth #DigitalMarketing #VideoGameMarketing #GamingIndustryInsights #BusinessMarketing #DigitalMarketing #B2BMarketing #MarketingStrategy #SocialMediaMarketing #ContentMarketing #BrandAwareness

Co-founder & Chairman, CCA Global Partners | Global Leader of Cooperatives | Speaker | Capitalism with a Conscience
The gaming industry is known among creatives and engineers to be particularly toxic, with low wages and long hours being the norm for video game workers. Enter the cooperative work model. Croatian video game company Gamechuck is a 17-person collective whose members vote on issues via an anonymous chat server- one of several small video game companies that have adopted the collective model worldwide. While large organizations like EA and Blizzard are still addressing lawsuits regarding employee mistreatment, introducing democratic decision-making to small studios is keeping employees happy, healthy, and away from burnout. Just another example of how cooperatives have a place in every industry. #Cooperatives #TechCoops #GamingIndustry

We’ve all been to those media events where you pay $5,000 for an 8x8 table and put your products on top of a tablecloth for reporters to look at. These events don’t really expose the media to the value of your products. So last year we created our own media event: Carve X. We invited about 50 reporters who got to play with our clients’ toys and games. People were riding our client’s electric scooters up and down the halls. Media loved it, saying they had never experienced something like that before. So this year, we did it again. With a twist, of course. We brought Carve X to Gen Con – the largest tabletop game convention in North America. Instead of being in the middle of the crowded show floor, we set up shop at a local restaurant just minutes from the convention center. We featured the latest games from brands including Upper Deck, Relatable, KessCo, Ultra PRO, Educational Insights, and more. With different gameplay stations set up throughout the venue, our 20+ media members could sit down and take in the essence of the games in a quiet, more relaxed setting. It was nothing short of a success and I’m proud of the team that made it happen – here’s to more Carve X in the future! #publicrelations #teamwork #partnership #mediarelations

The Equity 'Game On' campaign is now live! 🎮 Over the past few years, the games industry has faced challenges with layoffs, unsafe workplaces, inadequate AI regulation, and declining pay. Without a standardised framework, creating quality work becomes difficult, and unclear rates lead to a race to the bottom. Equity's newly launched Best Practices document, recommended rates, and Template Agreement cover essential aspects from AI protections to dispute resolution, aiming to safeguard performers. These clear guidelines and working practices will make it safer and easier for everyone to do their jobs, hopefully setting a precedent for other sectors of this incredible industry to follow. I invite all those who engage performers to read the documents, provide feedback, and engage with Equity UK - [email protected]. Thanks to everyone at Equity UK (especially John Barclay, Shannon Sailing and Liam Budd), Jessica Jefferies (CDG / CDA), Rebecca Yeo, Laurence B., Alan Turkington, Jane Perry, John Schwab, Joseph May and Trevor White for all the amazing work over the past few years to get us to this point.
