The most painful part of the transition from athletics to the real world is the expectations of your peer group. No one talks to you about winning anymore. Either they don’t expect you to win, or they don’t have any opportunities that will empower you to win. You’ll likely end up in a corporate sales job where winning is just exceeding your monthly quota. Even then, you don’t feel like you’re winning because they rarely give you an opportunity to be an owner in the business. As athletes, we find ways to cope with the stress and prepare ourselves before the fights. We have certain battle-tested rituals that help us be at our 100%. This time, I had to manage without my usual rituals, and the situation was made worse by the added stress of having my bag, containing my phone and headphones, stolen during the competition. Nevertheless, managed to beat a very strong Latvian opponent (thank you for travelling 10+ hours just to compete!) in the final with a scalped foot from the mat for the XIVth Polish No-Gi Championship!   So, why am I here? Simple, I'm eagerly seeking out my next challenge, my next opportunity to make a tangible impact and elevate the game.
