Not only do farmers markets benefit our state economy, but they also provide a hub for building community. Shoppers at the farmers market have 15-20 social interactions compared to the 1 or 2 at the grocery store. Farmers markets are essential in fostering community connections, especially in a state as big as ours. These are the farmers markets spread across Texas. It's no secret that the bulk of Americans do not and cannot grow their own food. Many of us no matter where we live are dependent on the food we can get from grocery stores and farmers markets in our area, and while societies have also exchanged food in marketplaces, our dependence on produce from places we cannot see has never been so large. While rapid, this change in production has been ongoing since 1840, the end of the Industrial Revolution. At Collective Food Works, we hope to empower our community by helping them to establish their own food networks for their families and larger communities. In New York City, urban agriculture practices, such as a community garden, are even more important as arable land is extremely limited. This post is to encourage all of you to start your own garden. If you can't, try to spend your money at local farmer's markets instead of large supermarkets. Together we can establish proper food networks within our community. #community

We are still working on our messaging at Singular XQ and as a social nonprofit start up, we serve diverse and multivalent stakeholders and audiences. With so many problems to address within the inequitable tech eco-system, we have defined three public hills which we stand on and those are: 1) Data-sovereignty 2) Humanity-Centered, Complexity Inspired Technology Design 3) Human-Rights in every link in the Global Technology Supply Chain We are focused on tech, but we also see all companies being "tech adjacent" and #Lipton is no exception. I am sharing this because it perfectly illustrates why being "human-centered" or even the improved "humanity-centered" works in the contemporary tech powered global-supply chain, and why an understanding of complex systems must inform the way we do business. To be crystal clear. This is not a platform solution. This is always and everywhere a human solution. Old ways of thinking produce, instantiate, and magnify new problems where commitments and solutions bring about the precise opposite of their stated intents. Again, platforms are largely administering more poison and calling it cure because the central assumptions and mindset shifts are not being addressed. Rural communities are being held back according to a poll by The CLA. Hear, hear! Great to see these old butter factories get repurposed. I am however a bit wary about the risk that the Australian Broadcasting Commission is trying to imply that farm aggregations are inevitable. To my mind, that's a Marxist message that is attempting to justify the betrayal of the sovereignty of the Australian Constitution without a referendum arising from the 2007 Water Act. I note this documentary about farming in Texas, USA, which reveals that the number of farms there has actually risen by 5,000 farms in recent years (see: https://lnkd.in/gh9uv8t8). My concern is that there's a threat to Australia's democracy being played out by both the Australian Broadcasting Commission and the Murdoch family's News Corp. The ABC is playing the extreme left (Marxist) role and News Corp is playing the extreme right (fascist) role in a combined extreme left/extreme right attack against the middle ground (what has historically been called "The Third Way"). Part of that involves a sustained, systemic, corrupt and unconstitutional attack against Australia's tradition of family owned farms ... replacing them with farm aggregations (e.g. Canadian PSP) and large oligarch operations (Gina Rhinehart, etc). That makes them two signs of the same tyrannical coin.

Lichfield District Council has secured £200,000 in funding to help small rural businesses and farms in the district expand or diversify. Rural England Prosperity Funding supports investment in micro or small businesses and funds equipment to enable greener, low carbon farming and the conversion of farm buildings for other commercial uses. The funding, administered via the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, is for capital investment only and must be spent on assets such as building or equipment which are expected to be used for at least one year. Expressions of interest are invited now for funding to support projects as varied as new onsite accommodation or creation of a wedding venue, pet and equine facilities including kennels or livery, infrastructure to protect against flooding, the purchasing of process and packaging machinery such as brewing equipment and modernising kitchen facilities. Any rural organisation with legal status can apply. This may be parish councils, public sector organisations, voluntary organisations, charities, higher and further education institutions and private companies. A small business means one with less than 50 employees, turnover of no more than £10.2 million and a balance sheet showing less than £5.1 million. Lichfield District Council's Cabinet Member for High Streets and Visitor Economy, Councillor Janice Silvester-Hall, said: "We are delighted to have secured this substantial amount of funding to help small rural businesses and farms across the district. In a tale of two cities, one story rises to the top - football is not the only battle being fought. One is that of Affordable Housing, or lack thereof in San Francisco, and the other is that of Food Deserts, or the overwhelming lack of access to affordable, healthy food in Kansas City. Let’s focus on Food Deserts today because it’s not surprising that San Francisco housing costs are 457.2% more expensive than Kansas City’s, although the gap is striking nonetheless.  Food Deserts are a national challenge, with more than 53M, or 17% of Americans, categorized as low-income and having little to no access to supermarkets or large food stores At 20.1% of Kansas City’s residents living in a food desert, its rate is double that of San Francisco and puts the region in the lower quartile of the country. Here at Equity Quotient, we are building a National Food Desert Database while also expanding the definition of what a food desert is.
