🔍 The Wall Street Journal "Shipping Wars" series continues to captivate, this time shedding light on **Walmart's innovative supply chain model**. In a strategic move to enhance their e-commerce capabilities, Walmart has cleverly utilized their vast store network, which spans over 4600 locations. This impressive network puts Walmart within a 10-mile radius of a whopping 90% of the US population, with over 4000 of these stores serving as hubs for e-commerce deliveries. Walmart's dedication to swift service is reflected in their creation of 7 dedicated e-commerce Market Fulfillment Centers (MFCs). These MFCs are designed to manage same-day orders for between 6 to 8000 of the most popular items, powered by the highly automated Alphabot shuttle system. With an ambitious plan to extend this initiative to over 100 locations, **Walmart is set to revolutionize e-commerce efficiency**. Moreover, Walmart's progressive approach is evident in their establishment of 5 "Next Generation Fulfillment Centers". These centers deliver a wider range of products with next-day shipping, thereby reaching an astounding 95% of the US population with either next day or 2-day service. We did our first AI gig this week. I think everyone was intruiged by our ambition - practical steps being made in AI rather than a philosophical or ethical debate We/I learned: 1. As always people share amazingly given the chance. Deliveroo, Booking.com and Spotify explained their AI journeys. Fascinating. 2. AI from vendors is really embryonic. 3. Don't put a nice attractive face or name on your AI chatbot anytime soon - there are some deviants out there 4.
