Quick course during summer vacation. It was an interesting subject.

I was talking to some older family members today and they felt that they have nothing to do once their children have grown older (with their own kids) and don't find any more purpose in life. I felt that the only difference between them and people of my generation is that they are not working and so really feel aimless. My question is 'Is work/earning a salary our only aim in life?' AND 'Is retirement actually good?' NOTE: I see some companies like WisdomCircle are doing work in this area but not really sure how many are taking advantage of the same. Of course, movies like 'The intern' are inspiring where the company hires old people as interns. So much appreciation for @austenclemons being my guest of honor at my 2nd Annual Spelhouse mixer event at the @jamesroom this past year. So many Spelman and Morehouse alumni in venture capital and media finance look forward every homecoming to connect and build to help bridge the gap with media and tech #weallwegot. We don’t just do this event to network, but share in real dialogue how to bridge the gap between diversity and capital and give insight on best practices for up-and-coming emerging managers to help build the ecosystem.   Three takeaways: •Galvanize the community - Group investing makes us stronger together and gets us access to the best deals with the combined capital •Keep communication lines open to the best deals and opportunities in the top VC cities other areas aren’t aware too •Provide opportunity - Look for interns, apprenticeships, and scouts within the alumni family. Don’t forget to share emerging manager cohorts and fellowship info. Get involved in the networks, remember to teach the younger generation.

Summertime Rain or Shine What are parents and their children planning for this long summer break? Have parents considered how their children will spend the next 6-8 weeks? With thoughtful planning, this extended period can be a time for children to learn, grow, and set the stage for a more joyful and manageable school year ahead. When we're busy and having fun, time often flies, but what about the long summer break? After the hard work, sweat, and stress of exams and school, children finally get a well-deserved break. While rest and recovery are essential, what's the plan after the rest? We know how unpredictable British summers can be, but let's embrace it and enjoy this time regardless. Growing up in India, where summer days were scorching, we adapted to the weather. Despite the heat, we maintained a routine during our summer break. Without social media or Netflix, we cherished time with family, cousins, and friends, engaging in internships, volunteering, or learning new skills like languages or crafts. Evenings were for outdoor play, despite the daytime heat. We didn't have phones, but everyone knew to gather at the local park by 6 pm. We played games like dog and the bone, duck duck goose, hide and seek, kho kho, gillidanda, hopscotch, and kick the can—simple games that required no fancy equipment, just friends. We also enjoyed badminton, tennis, cricket, swimming, and morning walks or bike rides to avoid the midday heat. Those summer holidays were the best times of our lives, filled with endless activities. While times have changed, some things remain the same. A strong community and network of friends are still crucial. Parents, have you thought about what your children will do besides playing video games and using social media? Technology can be addictive, so let's ensure it doesn't dominate their time.
