Do you know how a power transformer works? It's actually quite simple. It operates on the principle of electromagnetic induction. Initially the primary coil is connected to the power supply and the secondary coil is connected to the appliance. When alternating current flows through the primary coil, it generates a changing magnetic field around it which ultimately induces a current in the secondary coil. Voltage conversion is achieved by altering the number of turns in the coil winding if the number of turns in the secondary winding. Is greater, the output voltage will exceed the input voltage.
