Yes, that Claudia, the third women ever to win the Nobel economics prize in 2023 for her her groundbreaking work advancing our understanding of inequality and women's participation in the workforce.   It's fair to say that there are loads of people who give a sh*t about equality that aren't aware of Claudia.    Cutting to the chase she links history, reproductive health, employment systems, cultures, education (and more) directly to the gender pay gap.    We are at a point of change, employment systems, health equity, culture, technology etc. create an opportunity for much-needed change. Happy Women's Day to our home-grown #HorizonEU Coordinators! "Closing the overall gender gap will require 131 years, at the current rate of progress", according to the World Economic Forum. Change takes longer than we would like! As a small contribution to #InspireInclusion theme of this year's #iwd2024, my own institute's gender statistics: - 40% of our #HorizonEU Coordinators are women, - with an average age of 45 yrs at first coordination (versus 49 yrs for men), - half coordinate second time around ... and, we have more promissing #WomenInScience that can help us bring the average age even lower, before #HorizonEU ends! These stats & quotas do not deal with the core issues on gender gap ... but we couldn't have delivered on them without long-term support for female home-grown talent. When women are part of a board, they -- on average -- elevate the quality of decision-making by asking more questions from a stance of 'I don't know' -- acknowledging something that men on the same board may not feel comfortable doing in a similar way. They tend to ask deeper, more probing questions and are not afraid to get things on the table. They also arrive better prepared and are more concerned about accountability. In our social sector, the gender proportions on boards have been improving over the past 10+ years (except in some faith-based orgs), so hopefully we are reaping the benefits.
