#Sleep on an airplane: It's not about business class, it's about doing the right things! You don't have to spend 5k on a one-way #flight from SF to Lisbon to sleep on the plane! You can definitely do it on a "little airplane chair"! Here's how: 1. #Eat ahead of time and skip airplane meals. No matter how nice it looks - they never do, anyway! -, avoid them. They will increase your level of inflammation and metabolic stress. 2. #Hydrate. Flying can be very dehydrating - we lose a loooot of water per hour of flight. My go to is sparkling water. 3. #Dark, #cold and in silence. Avoid screens, use a nice eye-mark and noise-cancelling headset and don't over-dress - feeling cold will relax and induce sleep. Not fancy but clearly works, whether you fly #business or #economy! This is the best first step to beat #jetlag and prime your #performance!

What do #airplanes and late evenings have in common? ✈️ ✨ They provide an undisturbed environment free of distractions that offer a perfect opportunity for deep thinking and sparking #creativity. Most of the time we float through life busy with day-to-day, hour-to-hour thoughts. 🧠 We operate in a brain state called “Beta”. These environments can help activate a more creative state called “Alpha”. Alpha is linked with being more relaxed and is associated with a #flow state of mind. Today’s share is how to ground back into yourself when you are feeling anxious or your fight and flight is activated. This technique can be used with children and adults and can be used with individuals or groups. The first aspect is to ensure that you are safe, if you are driving pull over when safe to do so and turn the engine off, the same if operating machinery. Secondly look for a space where you can sit uninterrupted and safely. Begin by slowly looking left to right using your eyes only and keeping your head still. Look in both directions for 5 things you can see, maybe 5 flowers, trees, colours or houses etc. Next look immediately around you for 4 things you can touch. This may be up and down, left and right, forward and back, touch different textures and experience the sensory calming of your body feeling different surfaces. Then listen out for 3 different noises you can hear, this may take a little longer, take your time. Try to listen for something close, something a little further and something far away. Then allow the senses to switch to the nose and find 2 things you can smell. 2 different things, try for a grounding musky smell and a more uplifting heady scent. Lastly one thing you can taste. If you do not have anything to hand, think of your favourite food or taste and imagine you’re eating it. Allow the taste to savour through the mouth and taste buds. By practicing this grounding technique when you are calm, you train the senses to be able to carry it out when the fight and flight is activated. It becomes part of the muscle memory and will help to ground and bring you back to a balance and centre.
