ARE YOU READY FOR A BLOODY STORY? If not, you still have a few weeks to get ready because, according to Donald Trump, "his plans to expel millions of immigrants will be a 'bloody story'!" The story begins with Holocaust denial and ends with the expelling of millions of immigrants. Between the two events are the camps. It is difficult to deny that there will be violence when JD Vance, the Republican candidate for vice president, plans to go on tour with America's leading Holocaust denier and the Republican candidate for president tries to legitimize revenge politics, even if exacting revenge means violence. HAVE YOU VISITED THE JAIL CELL THAT IS WAITING FOR YOU YET? Trump, this past weekend, on Truth Social, posted a rant in which he threatens to prosecute anyone who, in Trump's view, interfered in some way with Trump winning the election. The threats are straight out of the authoritarian playbook -- intimidate the voters and the election workers. And what constitutes the fraud and interference that Trump threatens to prosecute? It is whatever Trump, assuming he wins the election, determines to be fraud and interference, and can include having voted for someone other than Trump. AT $10 MILLION A BRIBE, HOW MANY TIMES CAN TRUMP BE BRIBED? That's the ultimate question. The foundational questions, of course, include: How cheaply can Trump be bought? and How often can Trump be bought? These questions and more arise from the Washington Post story alleging that Trump was given a $10 million bribe by Egyptian President al-Sisi. Trump's response: Fake news! But is it really fake news? Democrats are asking Trump to prove that he didn't receive the bribe. Rather than producing evidence that there was no bribe, the Trump-Republican response has been simply "fake news", which is no response at all. BYE, BYE, AILEEN! Maybe. Hopefully. The Classified Documents Case dismissal by Judge Aileen Cannon has been appealed to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. One of the amicus briefs by CREW (Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington) includes a motion requesting that the Circuit Court not only rule in favor of Jack Smith's appeal but that it also remove Aileen Cannon from the case. Will the motion prevail? It should, just as the dismissal of the case should be overturned. BANKRUPT 6 TIMES YET WANTS TO BE IN CHARGE OF THE ECONOMY Republicans rail against Americans who owe more than they can pay and demand a balanced budget amendment (until they have the power to introduce such an amendment when they conveniently forget about balancing the budget and elimination of deficits), and have laid out plans to overhaul the American economy in Project 2025. What are the ramifications of a Project 2025 economy overhaul? Basically, it will mean the end of America. Republicans refuse to accept that the budget deficits they rail against were created by Republicans (Reagan and Trump being leading causes of America's huge deficits). More importantly, they refuse to accept that someone who has gone bankrupt 6 times is not the person who should be making significant economic decisions for the rest of us. HERE WE GO AGAIN! Republican thoughts and prayers at work -- in another Red state. Nothing more need be said except, "Thank you, Republicans, for helping ensure that America's guns are safe!"

IS TRUMP BARRED FROM BEING ELECTED PRESIDENT? It would be nice if the answer were yes but . . . . When the issue of eligibility is discussed, it is discussed in light of the Civil War Amendments and the prohibition against someone convicted of treason being ballot eligible. But what about the 22nd Amendment? The first few words of Section 1 of that Amendment (which was passed in 1951 following FDR's 4-term presidency) are: "No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice . . . ." According to Trump and his MAGA followers, Trump was elected to a second term in 2020. True, he didn't officially serve a second term, but the wording is elected, not served. Trump still claims he won, just that the serving part was stolen from him. Is he not then ineligible to be elected in 2024 by his own claims and words? The rub is that the majority of America believes and knows that Trump did not win the 2020 election, Joe Biden did. The bigger rub is SCOTUS which would ignore the plain meaning of the words ("elected" rather than "served") if given the opportunity. Yet, isn't Trump's neverending complaints, claims, and lawsuits demanding that he be recognized the winner of the 2020 election and admission against interest that, by his own petard, demands Trump be declared ineligible to be elected and if ineligible to be elected, ineligible to be on the ballot? Is this a winning legal argument? It probably has less odds of prevailing in even a sympathetic court than I have of winning the lottery 7 weeks in a row. Regardless of those odds, it is worth considering because SCOTUS and lower courts, as well as churches and philosophers, repeatedly tell us our words have meaning -- until they don't, and there would be nothing finer than seeing Trump hoisted by his own petard (or should I say words). What say you, the protectors of our vote? Is it not worth making the argument to save America and American democracy?

Alas, what those hands are on is unrepeatable but perhaps she has met her match in her new district with her new Democrat opponent, Trisha Calvarese.
