What a week it has been!! Coming back from holidays with a couple of jet lagged kids that kept us up all night, I had to jump right back into it. Kicking off with a keynote for more than 💥300💥 employees from the European Central Bank on the topic: 𝑊ℎ𝑦 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑤𝑒 𝑠𝑜 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑓𝑢𝑠𝑒𝑑 𝑎𝑏𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑟𝑎𝑐𝑖𝑠𝑚? It was amazing to see the engagement that Silke Heinrichs, Teodora Atskova, Carolina Martinho Simões and Bianca Peresani were able to generate on this important topic. The session was opened by board member Elizabeth McCaul with a very personal and vulnerable message that set the tone for a real discussion. 🙏🏾 Next up, London! ‘In our lives our company is the smallest big thing that we have influence over’.  Listening to Bruce Daisley and Edelman’s Mark McGinn discussing  trust in organisations*, this nugget really struck me. The Edelman Trust Barometer is the seminal report that looks at trust in businesses and institutions. Over recent years it has revealed increasing disenfranchisement in institutions, such as government, and a correlating rise in trust in businesses.  It has also shown an increasing expectation that organisations will do more to solve societal issues and challenges. Employees not only increasingly expect organisations to take a position on wider societal and geopolitical issues, they also feel that as part of that ‘small big thing’ they have agency – they can have a voice and that voice can make a difference.  This really struck me. It’s a powerful reminder, if we ever needed one, that we need to be really intentional about how we involve and engage employees at work.  A healthy communications culture shouldn’t only focus on broadcast messaging, but needs to actively listen at all levels across the organisation from senior leadership to teams. It’s not only important for fostering innovation, and keeping in touch with issues that concern our employees, removing bias and including a range of perspectives on an issue, but it seems that it’s about being part of something bigger than ourselves that can make a difference in the world – being part of a purposeful organisation.  *Eat Sleep Work repeat podcast 17 Jan 2024 #trust #internalcommunications  #employeelistening  

The drive to ensure an inclusive and supportive company culture has been created through previous personal bad experiences. Just a few examples include: - Needing to be present at my desk in the office to be considered as working. - When I asked if I could have a laptop, rather than desktop (as a qualitative researcher this is essential), I was asked why I needed it. So ended up buying my own to enable me to do my job better. - Not recognised for any achievements, treated like a number, constantly told ‘need to do more’ despite winning an industry award for our work and already being highest achieving team. People do their best when they are treated like a human being. Look after people when they need you, and they will be loyal and go the extra mile when you need it. At Magenta Research, we prioritise inclusion in our daily working practices. At the Market Research Society (MRS) Agency Owners and Leaders conference, I’ll share a little of what we’ve done, and I’m eager to hear from others and learn too.
