Will Apple finally address the virtual elephant in the room? With the official launch of the first Vision Pro happening real soon, could this be the hardware device that unlocks the gaming market for Apple? If it is, they are keeping pretty quiet about the fact. You'd think that gaming would be right up there as one of the main use case for the Vision Pro (if not playing then game development?) but even in the latest promo there was only a tiny 10 second glimpse that showed it being used in any such capacity. Why so? Apple have historically always been coy about the gaming market, mainly due to concerns/hesitancy around brand image, control and probably most pertinently monetisation and revenue models. However, with the Vision Pro, will this be a massive oversight? Maybe they’re cooking up something special with Disney? Who knows? What do you think? #Apple #visionpro #spatial #vr #ar

With the Apple Vision Pro making waves, we couldn’t help but draw parallels to Meta’s Quest 3, promising gaming and metaverse interaction revolutions. 🎮 Is the Quest 3 failing to catch up to the Vision Pro, or did marketing missteps hinder its success? Apple seems determined not to repeat such errors. I came across this wonderful and fun visualization of the last 50 years in the gaming industry based on revenue and split by platform. Some memorable milestones in there and testament to where the industry has come from it's humble beginnings. Interesting point-outs: - Mobile still has the biggest piece of the pie with consoles stagnating and PC slowly but steadily growing - Handhelds have - for now - almost but vanished but it'll be interesting to see if/how the Switch 2 and the young but interesting market of PC gaming handhelds will change that - VR/AR is finally making a noticeable dent with Apple's Vision Pro just hitting the US market and Meta's Quest 3 being a great success - And lastly we unfortunately see a noticeable decline in revenue for the whole industry based on many market shocks (e.g. pandemic, inflation, high interest) with some great question marks around how quickly the industry will be able to recuperate

🍏 Apple’s Vision for Spatial Gaming👓 The game industry is aflutter with speculation over the viability of Apple’s Vision Pro as a potentially disruptive new gaming platform. While most industry observers are skeptical that Vision Pro will reinvent gaming in the same way Apple’s iPhone and App Store did, it’s worth taking a closer look at how this new device changes the dynamics of the AR/VR market — or what Apple is now referring to as “spatial computing.” Vision Pro is clearly not marketed to the average customer, let alone gamers of any sort. It clocks in at $3,499 for the base 256 GB model and closer to $4,000 if you want things like a travel case, AppleCare+, and optical inserts for prescription glasses. However, with a high-end price point could it also deliver an exceptional gaming experience? Read more here: https://lnkd.in/ePZ6wJvf Thank you, Matthew Dion, for writing! A real shame but not a surprise. The entry price point was definitely a big barrier for many and the low player numbers shown with RE4 (around 100k) is also pointing to a general overall failure for the hardware. With the Vision Pro being a long way away from being a financially viable platform for VR games, that pretty much just leaves the Quest 3 at the top of the pack. Especially as it apparently outsold the PSVR2 at a ratio of 30:1. #gamesindustry #vrgaming #psvr2 #metaquest3
