Content Marketing in tech companies has come to encompass IRL and virtual events. And many of these modern companies aren't satisfied with your run of the mill customer conferences. What does a Chief Events Officer do? Many asked me this question after the Time Magazine announcement broke the internet a few weeks ago. I am thinking a lot about this topic. For the time being, I categorized the career progression. For as much as a LinkedIn post can do. These are not judgments. It is not a better/worse scenario. It’s a way to illustrate how approaches evolve. The Event Planner - Budget The event planner needs to make sure a program works. These days, budget is top of mind. With costs going wild, I can confirm it. Budget is the number one issue with planners. Possibly with the Head of Events, too. But I like to think that: Head of Events - Data If one event becomes multiple events, data becomes top of mind. Budget, cost, and ROI are the top KPIs for all Head of Events. But from a higher perspective. Are events delivering for the business or the portfolio? CEO, Chief Events Officer - Impact CEOs think about their events as a business. Are we hitting the goals but also changing minds and behaviors and leaving a positive legacy for customers and employees? What’s top of your mind?

For me, a combination of the three. We need to be obessed with our budget to maximize spend for all programs (facing rising costs), while measuring the data to show justification/results, all while ensuring the impact and memories made leave a lasting impression.
