Investments can outperform expectations. Our daily reminder in sports: 🐬 Stephen Ross is looking to sell a portion of his stake in the Miami Dolphins after valuations in the National Football League (NFL) have surged in recent years. Per reports, proceeds from the transaction could go to fund more sports related and real estate investments. 📈In markets — by the end of 2023, the S&P 500 had compounded annually at ~15% going back to 2007. This compared to just ~8% for the rest of global equities (MSCI ACWI ex-US). Today, US stocks now represent 63% of the MSCI All Country World Index with only 24% global share of GDP. Remember, the US returned just 38% from 1999 up to 2007. Europe (+97%) and Emerging Markets (+420%) well outpaced in those years. As valuations run up, investors shouldn’t feel pressure to exit their entire position. Wrexham AFC owners and hollywood actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have purchased a minority stake in Mexican top-flight side Club Necaxa. McElhenney and Reynolds will join other high-profile minority investors such as Eva Longoria, Odell Beckham Jr., Mesut Özil and more. It is common knowledge that since the Wrexham takeover in 2020, the hollywood actors have managed to do the unthinkable in North Wales. By earning back to back promotions getting the side to League One for the first time since 2005 and bringing global interest to the city, they know how to change the trajectory of a sports club very quickly. The roles for the McElhenney and Reynolds at Club Necaxa are currently unclear at the moment but with how well they’ve done at Wrexham, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the current owners of the Mexican side look to use their profile, influence and contacts to revamp the brand of the club. Club Necaxa are currently 50 per cent owner by an investment group led by Al Tylis and Sam Porter. Back in April, we highlighted the trend of secondary and tertiary markets investing billions of dollars in affiliated MiLB stadiums and adjacent mixed-use construction projects. The American Association of Professional Baseball, an MLB partner league, is experiencing a development renaissance of its own. And the American Association is largely managing to it without taxpayer funding. “We cracked the code on how [to] approach cities that we want to be in, that are crucial for us as an entity [to be in], and [on how to] bring together the developer, the operator, the city, and the league to [get] a ballpark [district built] utilizing private dollars,” Josh Schaub said.
