We shouldn't rely on politicians to save the arts. Look at history, has any party served the arts and made it better? I don't mean better in comparison to atrocious.
What party has enabled the sector to be sustainable? Wings of the same bird. Not sure why the sector still believes government is coming to save it.
In the meantime let's say this one enthusiastic politician is unable to do the things he says he will do, even though he's doesn't really say he'll do anything, how long do we wait until we realise nothing has changed, do we raise our voices again and say support the arts, art matters, etc etc.
Each generation that comes to the arts has hope that a political party will save the arts, shouldn't we hold ourselves accountable to save it? It's the industry we love afterall.
if you're an artist, audience member or venue it's on you, it's on all of us to save ourselves. if you don't know how, put your creative genius to work and see the clues that success has left, there are answers out there if you choose to see them. Please, please, please step into your power and stop handing it over and expecting a result.
