S#&% just got real!!🎉 In three weeks, I'll be hitting the stage at MPI's World Education Congress, and the jitters and excitement is starting to kick in😄 MPI's WEC holds a special place in my heart—it's not just another conference; it's a platform where I get to test out fresh, groundbreaking content in front of my peers and colleagues. Their empathy and constructive feedback is always appreciated (thank you Jessie States and team for giving me a platform to test new stuff!!) This session is different than anything I’ve delivered. What is an insight and where to find it? Last week, I attended the second boot camp class of the PRWeek UK-backed Creative Mentoring Scheme 2023 and learnt all about insights and the power of universal truth. You might’ve probably guessed it….I was thrilled to be selected as one of the mentees this year and be paired up with David Fraser 👨💻 The session, hosted by Michael Sheen, David and Sarah Firth, is a crash course in how to identify business/communications problems to figure out a good creative insight that is inspiring, relevant and valid, and how to distinguish facts, observations and insight. Working in the creative industry means that “insight” or “ strategy” is something we hear daily, but it never gets old to learn about the structure in a new way or how others see it, does it? For me at least. Here are my three key takeaways: ✍️ There is no one way to do things, we just need to look at the problem from different perspectives. An insight is something that’s true and lets us see the problem in a new light, something that’s so refreshing and surprising at first, but also common sense ✍️ Insights help connect the dots between experiences and solutions, so we need to broaden our frame of reference and experiences ✍️ An insight can be found and forged through reading, listening, enjoying, and learning - whether it’s through politics, market research, media, social, digital or culture. For example, what can it tell us about culture when we're all rooting for The Traitors? Is the Faithfuls inherently good and the Traitors inherently bad? (I'd read a PhD thesis on that topic 🤓) #Insight #CreativeTraining #CPD

I am looking forward to these sessions! The first session because of new features that explore communication profiles. The second session because development is so important but so few tools measure and develop these skills. Hope to see you there!

I did a scary thing, and it was awesome. Yesterday I ran a brand-new webinar for the first time, all about presenting your ideas with confidence. And guess what? I was nervous! Yes, despite improvising for hundreds of hours in front of audiences, despite speaking at conferences and events across the country including 4 stints at SXSW, and despite leading hundreds of workshops and trainings... I was nervous. This one was new, and I made it all by myself. I'm great with a collaborator, but I didn't have one this time. I was trying something new and scary. And... I LOVED IT! The participants were engaged, asked great questions, contributed brilliant tips and ideas, and gave me some valuable feedback afterwards. And I think they learned something about how to present their ideas with confidence WITHOUT faking it. And that's pretty awesome. 🎯 5 things I learned this week from interesting people 🎯 First stop - the Make UK annual conference in London on Tuesday (the best thing about the train service to London is the sunrises) 1️⃣ Best question from the audience to Rory Stewart & Alastair Campbell 'How do we get politicians saying "manufacturing"?' 💡 The answer wasn't great BUT Campbell made the same good point twice in the session - "Don't underestimate how much a new Government is looking for voices and ideas" 2️⃣ Joshua McLaughlin FRSA and Tony Ryan MIET FRSA gave a great session on engaging next gen talent online 💡McLaughlin - "40% of Gen Z prefer TikTok and Instagram over google for online search" - sounds like we got to stop optimising SEO solely for google 3️⃣ Great to catch up with Brian Cutts FCMI, Paul Everitt, Simon Randall MSc CFIOSH and Paul Brooks face to face again. Breaking bread with Brian after the conference each year is one of my favourite times I didn't watch any of the politician slots (after the first 3 minutes) - seem to be writing the same stuff down year on year 4️⃣ Wednesday was coffee and another deep chat with David Bovis, M. npn - every day is a school day when I spar with David about the brain and the neuroscience of change 💡 His and Levent Türk (🧠Mr.BTFA🧩) BTFA approach at Duxinaroe Ltd is really something - take a look Then to see Will Bridgman to plan lean apprenticeships. Will is a force of nature. If you don't know him, he and Warren are the best example I've seen of committing to young vocational talent 5️⃣ Yesterday was a catch up with Gary Sheader, another passionate manufacturing advocate. I always enjoy an honest and nourishing conversation with Gary. 🌟 Dive into HES's Lunch Lecture Experience! 🌟     Every other Tuesday, we come together at HES for our renowned lunch lectures, providing our colleagues with a valuable opportunity to learn from each other. While these sessions usually feature informative presentations covering various work areas, last week's event brought a refreshing change to our routine.    One of our colleagues took the lead to practice hosting a panel discussion. To support her, we organized an engaging conversation on ethical dilemmas. What made this gathering truly memorable was our decision to take it outdoors, enjoying the warmth of the sun while discussing important topics. With no need for slides and a delicious sandwich in hand, we fully engaged in the dynamic exchange of ideas.
