Just gave a talk (virtual) at the Flow Chemistry Europe (FCE-24)on “Continuous Flow Chemistry and Polymerizations with AI/ML Strategies” https://lnkd.in/eUVbzFSZ Unfortunately I could not be there in person. But check out the speakers and the title of their talks. This is a great meeting and networking to catch-up and follow. The Flow Chemistry Society (FCS) is highly regarded as pioneers in using bench scale “chemical engineering” technology, computational DOE and QSAR tools in organic and medicinal chemistry. It also bridges the gaps between microfluidics, microreactors, and scalable manufacturing. This is a very good group. I am bringing this field closer to polymers and materials synthesis with AI/ML driven autonomous reaction control and monitoring. Our group at ORNL is setting the stage for this together with the INTERSECT Program. The agenda: https://lnkd.in/ebZxYtd6 This was held in person at Malaga, Spain! While the acronym FT often stands for the Fourier Transform, it also has another meaning for both of us— one that we encountered long before we became familiar with its mathematical use. For students in the Czech Republic during the mid‐80s, as far as we were concerned, it could only refer to Frantisek (Frank) Turecek….. With this wording, we initiated the special Mass Spectrometry Reviews issue honoring Frank Turecek from the University of Washington, which has already been completed (https://lnkd.in/dssSuCE6). This issue comprises articles submitted by Frank's colleagues and friends from America, Europe, and Asia. It commences with two reminiscence articles and then advances to reviews on the fundamental and biomedical applications of mass spectrometry, which were always of significant interest to Frank. https://lnkd.in/dfx8uey8 https://lnkd.in/df_ApDTQ https://lnkd.in/dWvGeQWw https://lnkd.in/dn9Tj64Y https://lnkd.in/deB3UFQf https://lnkd.in/dnwtSAuu https://lnkd.in/dUXsEFAg Frank’s scientific record is extraordinary. Apprehensive about missing important milestones, we asked Frank to write this part for you and us: https://lnkd.in/dCNHUy-6 Enjoy your reading. #massspectrometry

Excited to share that I've completed the "Protein-ligand docking 101 - running a simulation in GOLD" course by CCDC. This course equipped me with the skills to simulate how small molecules bind to proteins, a valuable technique in drug discovery and biomolecular research. #proteindocking #goldsoftware #CCDC #drugdiscovery

Evaluating the performance of frontier LLMs on scientific interpretation and reasoning tasks is challenging to do well, but critical to developing these models for use in scientific research. Here we report LAB-Bench - a set of ~2,500 questions which do just that.
Today FutureHouse released ~2,500 hard bio evals that test lab protocol design, scientific literature RAG, sequence design, figure understanding, table understanding, and more. We benchmarked against >10 independent PhD-level experts. Frontier LLMs do not yet exceed humans. Making this required setting up a large pool of experts in experimental biology - which was a big task to begin with. Next - we designed question that we believe test an LLM reasoning ability, not knowledge, and built questions across the biology accordingly. Finally - to check for contamination or training on evals - we withheld 20%. The work was done by Jon Laurent, Joseph Janizek, Michael McCanna, Michael Hammerling, Michaela Hinks, Siddharth Narayanan, Manvitha Ponnapati, and Samuel G.
