An insightful discussion at this years IIDA CLS!
Dimensions of humanity, cultural competence, and normalizing conversations around identity - these are just a few of the powerful topics we discussed today with EDI thought leader Jessica Bantom. Many thanks to Jessica for traveling to San Antonio to lead this workshop at the IIDA Texas Oklahoma Chapter Leadership Summit. In its simplest form, good design is design that’s good for all. Our group left inspired to make the chapter more equitable, diverse and inclusive. Listening is a key component of effective leadership, enabling leaders to understand the needs and perspectives of their team members, and ultimately lead more effectively. We are on the home run with our paper and wheel design - releasing soon! 🙌🏾 This paper underscores the vital role of safe spaces in nurturing authentic dialogue and the thriving of Black and Racialised leadership. ➡️It introduces the Safe Spaces for Black and Racialised Leaders Wheel, a co-created practice framework, underpinned by insights and experiences. ➡️Its dimensions are rooted in social justice-oriented principles, emphasising the value of lived experiences in shaping this framework. ➡️This paper explores an empowering and collaborative Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Leadership program, presenting safe spaces (embedded as a pillar of the program) and as a potential systemic intervention with transformative potential for equity. ➡️Drawing on these insights, the paper underscores the necessity of safe spaces for the thriving of Black and Racialised leaders. ➡️The paper concludes with actionable recommendations for organisations committed to flourishing culturally responsive leadership, inspiring hope for creating and maintaining inclusive safe spaces. Dynamic, growth-focused marketing leader with extensive international experience leading brands to wide success.
You try to the best for your team, for your company, for yourself. 🏹 You make decisions and drive along the strategies, you direct, you handle you organize, you delegate. 📋 And you make mistakes. Lots of them. Even when your intentions are the best and you did everything you could, you will make mistakes. 💔 Leadership, especially in the harder times, isn't about always getting it right. It's not about being perfect. It's about #perseverance, #determination, and #resilience. 🙌 💪 🤞 As Bob Chapman (CEO of Barry-Wehmiller, a $3+ billion dollar company) states, it is a privilege to care for someone else's child (even if they are full-grown adults). Through this, leadership is also a responsibility, and among other things, it is your responsibility to exemplify to the best of your ability the perseverance, the determination, and the resilience to the people around you, especially the team you lead. To teach them how to do it better or at least, how to stand tall even when you've made a mistake. To greet those situations with positivity and acceptance and determine how you'll do it better next time, instead of being stuck on the problem or the mistake. Join us next Tuesday for Upstate International and #WorldAffairsCouncilUpstate for the ultimate lesson in Leadership. 🙌 Learn why Bob implemented this culture of leadership at Barry-Wehmiller and BW Flexible Systems and see the success we've had because of it. 💯 Register for 1-day or 2-day tickets today https://lnkd.in/g5DQ2yHM Tracie Frese Kyle Chapman Brianna Woodsby
