"I learned to be vulnerable in both private and public spaces. I learned to not let hyper-masculinity ruin me. I learned to listen more, talk less. I learned how to elevate others without dimming my own light. I learned that being flawed isn't bad, it's not growing that is the issue. And lastly, I learned that every leader comes from a space in which that leadership has been challenged, and the best ones adapted." - Ronald Preston Clark He shares what he learned during his RISE Urban Fellowship year (and beyond). While the program is hard to describe to those who haven't experienced the 'RISE way,' it'll be a transformative experience. One of my most ambitious school leaders need to hear this….. I get it. It’s a lot going on as you prepare for your spring sprint… that time of year when spring fever is kicking in, yet you’re trying to prepare for state assessments… see which teachers are returning next year… oh and start planning summer PD… new teacher orientations…. solidify your teacher appreciation week plans… master scheduling…. oh and making calendar updates for the 24-25 school year! All of that. And then carry the one. 😆 In the midst of all of that, I want you to master peace. Your team is WATCHING. Your middle leaders are WATCHING. The way you create culture and sustain staff is by developing leadership maturity. And that includes, mastering peace in the midst… In order to walk the walk you’re walking, it requires a different level of emotional intelligence, emotional resilience, AND leadership maturity. Your school will become a MASTERPIECE the moment you learn how to MASTER PEACE. Ask me how I know. Ask the women leading schools in my community that have mastered how to “work at work”.

A lot of our work at the Research Leadership Institute centers around the "academic research enterprise" (i.e., the systems, services, policy, and staffing dedicated to generating knowledge at a college or university). While the academic research enterprise can be exciting and career-enhancing, it is often mysterious to faculty from historically underrepresented groups. Despite the recent uptick in developing academic leaders across colleges and universities, meager efforts have been made to develop leaders of the academic research enterprise in the context of their identities, research areas, productivity, and available resources. That's where the Research Leadership Institute can help. Check us out: https://lnkd.in/gSGFqzF7
