Throughout the years, Belinda's family have stayed at our House for a total of 49 nights while Seth and Zayn receive medical treatment at Children's Westmead Hospital. The GWS GIANTS generously provided Belinda's family with tickets to their game against Carlton, with the kids joining the guard of honour 🤩 We're humbled to help enable these moments of joy. Thank you so much to the GIANTS for giving our families such special experiences during a difficult period in their lives ❤ #KeepingFamiliesClose #RMHCGWS #Memories

Seeking a New Role l Community + Economic Development l Urban and Rural Planning and Health I Project Management l Strategic Planner l Data Analysis l RPF Writer l
37 hospitals are at risk of closing in small-town and rural counties across Oklahoma. Think homeless is awful now - just wait! Because of a Public Finance --- Economics course through Kansas State University, I have been "assigned" to dig deep into economic topics. I did! And, as I continue to edit the so far 30-page document. I am looking at ways to improve healthcare for 39% of Oklahoma's population in rural and small towns, and the health of everyone else. The goal is not just to get a 100% on it, when it's handed to the professor, but to use it to drive health policy to ensure better health outcomes for all. And, hoping to stick around - I am looking for a new role in the nonprofit/government/corporate sector - to see ideas turn into action in the branches of state government. Matt Ohrt, Ge Bai, Ron Barshop, and others are driving me to consider a few different angles. Who knew LinkedIn would be an important homework tool? And, I have handed out my "very rough draft" to a few local physicians to get their insight.

The list of states not at risk of rural hospital closures is short: Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Utah. That's 45 States at risk of diminished patient access. Where's the public outcry? 💔

The goal of #visionzero is no deaths or serious injuries on our roads. It is underpinned by the safe system which consists of five pillars: safer roads, safer speeds, safer vehicles, safer road use and post-crash response. In 2011 the first UN Decade of Action for Road Safety was launched, with a target of halving road deaths by 2020. In the UK between 2003 and 2012 road deaths reduced by 50% from 3,508 to 1,754. between 2013 and 2022 the reduction in road deaths plateaued to just 0.1% from 1,713 to 1,711. The value of preventing collisions and casualties in the UK in 2022 was estimated as £43.2 billion, that is £830 million every week. The value of preventing one death is £2.25 million, however, the loss of a life and the impact it has on family and friends can never be measured that way. Who is going to meet the challenge of the second UN Decade of Action for Road Safety and take action to halve road deaths by 2030 #50by30 Rishi Sunak Keir Starmer Edward Davey Mark Harper Louise Haigh MP Guy Opperman Bill Esterson Randerson, Baroness All that is needed is courage. There is no lack of evidence or shortage of effective measures. Here are a few examples (and there are lots more). Roads There is no national body that oversees or regulates the quality of road maintenance delivered by local highway authorities. The Office of Rail and Road is responsible for Health and Safety on our railways but not on our roads, where 30% of journeys are for work. Speed When France reduced the speed limit on single carriageways from 90 to 80 km/h it reduced deaths by 12%. Vehicles Adopting the General and Pedestrian Safety Regulations could potentially prevent 1,762 fatalities and 15,612 serious injuries, amounting to an economic value of around £7 billion over a 16-year period. Road use A progressive driving licence would protect young drivers from the known risks of carrying peer-aged passengers and driving very late at night. Post Crash Response A fully operation Road Safety Investigation Branch. “Road collisions lead to significantly more deaths in Great Britain than those caused by other modes of transport, yet there is currently no independent body to investigate road incidents and their causes.” Those impacted by road harm should receive the same support, whether or not a suspected crime has been committed. We hope you can join us as we share our plans for the #RoadPeaceChallenge2024 at our online launch event at 11am on February 7, 2024. During the Challenge week of action, we'll be bringing together road crash victims, bereaved families, police, firefighters, ambulance crews, doctors, nurses, schools, businesses and communities – to make a united stand against road harm. It will be easier than ever to get involved and make a difference this year, so please tell your colleagues, family and friends.
