#MajorProject // The first stage of Melbourne’s Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) project is underway with boots on the ground across all six station sites. The project will deliver a 90km rail line that aims to relieve CBD congestion by linking every major train service from the Frankston Line to the Werribee Line via Melbourne Airport. The ARA’s Value of Rail report highlights that rail contributes almost $30 billion to the Australian economy each year and supports 165,000 jobs - enabling the development of thriving and sustainable cities and towns. What's next for SRL? Works on the first tunnel access structure in Heatherton for the SRL project will begin this week. Sydney Metro is the biggest urban rail project in Australian history. Sydney Metro West (SMW) is a 24-kilometer (15 mi) #underground expansion of Sydney Metro that will link the Parramatta and #Sydney central business districts (CBDs) and the communities in between. The completion of the SMW line is part of the Future Transport Strategy’s vision of “30-minute cities,” with a goal of improving public transport networks and services to ensure 30-minute access to key destinations 24/7. SMW is being delivered in three stages: Central Tunnelling Package (CTP); Western Tunnelling Package (WTP); and our scope, Eastern Tunnelling Package (ETP). The first two stages, CTP and WTP, are currently under construction. ETP, which is 3.5 kilometers (2.2 mi) of tunnel, will service growing populations of the western suburbs of Sydney, Australia, from greater Parramatta to Sydney CBD. As someone who has experienced firsthand the challenges of accessibility previously with a son in a wheelchair, and now my dad, I understand the difficulties in navigating places that lack inclusive infrastructure. Missing out on favourite spots not only reduces the experience for wheelchair users but can also result in lost revenue for venues. I know I stopped going to certain places where accessibility was an issue. Inclusivity for all is supposed to be the goal, yet often this isn’t the case still.
