Expanding College Horizons for NYC Youth. Did you know 1 in 5 NYC youth lack access to tools and guidance to pursue higher education? Many students are the first in their families to consider college and miss early exposure to campuses and career paths. They lack mentors to guide them through applications, financial aid, and more. This leads to overwhelming numbers of qualified students foregoing college and missing life-changing opportunities. At Roads to Success, we are breaking down these barriers through growing our immersive college access programs across all five boroughs. This includes: 🔹 College prep and financial aid literacy workshops 🔹 Campus tours for underserved students 🔹 Scholarships 🔹 Essay writing and interview prep 🔹 Paid internships and career workshops 🔹 Ongoing mentoring and coaching We have supported over 2,000 students in visiting colleges and exploring careers and leadership roles in the past year through our College Access Pathways Program and workforce development initiatives and workshops. Many students are now thriving, on track to be the first in their family to attend college. But so many more students need this support. That is why we need you this #givingtuesday on November 28th! Roads to Success is thrilled to introduce Ellie Bell (They/Them) as our new Masters Educational Specialist! Ellie brings a wealth of experience in education, particularly in developing curricula for underserved communities. They are currently pursuing a PhD in Urban Education, focusing on Breaking, Building, & Perpetuating Systems of Oppression in Educational Settings. Their work is deeply rooted in social-emotional learning, literacy, and the arts, using innovative methods like puppetry, storytelling, and play building to engage students from 3K through 12th grade, including Students with Disabilities and English Language Learners. Ellie's expertise extends beyond the classroom—they have led professional development sessions for over 100 teaching artists and educators, managed and evaluated educational programs across NYC, and secured in funding through grant writing.
