Is your fleet ready to embrace renewable diesel for cost savings and sustainability? According to a study by the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI), switching to renewable diesel could lead to a substantial reduction in CO2 emissions per truck life cycle by 67.3%, a stark contrast to the 30.0 to 39.5% decrease offered by battery electric vehicle (BEV) trucks. And also worth noting, renewable diesel lowers maintenance costs for diesel engines and offers significant environmental benefits, including a 65% reduction in carbon intensity compared to petroleum diesel. 📌 𝗝𝗕𝗙 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗘 - 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 Kimberly Lynch Renewable diesel emerges as a promising solution. Unlike traditional fossil fuels, renewable diesel is derived from waste and residues, turning what was once considered waste into a valuable resource. This innovative fuel significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions and offers operational benefits such as lower maintenance costs and improved vehicle performance. Adopting renewable diesel does not require any modifications to existing diesel engines, making it a practical and immediately deployable solution for the trucking industry. It also provides a reliable and consistent energy source, unlike some other renewable energy options that can be intermittent. While electric vehicles hold great promise for the future, the current challenges related to battery technology, charging infrastructure, and energy density make renewable diesel a more feasible option for the present (see chart below). Certas Energy announces industry first HVO fleet balancing calculator 🔌 Certas Energy has created the industry’s first HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) fleet balancing calculator, allowing fleet operators to calculate the cost of mixing HVO with traditional diesel to aid decarbonisation. HVO is a lower carbon alternative diesel which offers immediate greenhouse gas emissions savings of up to 90% compared to diesel across the product life cycle. It also burns cleaner, emitting fewer particulates compared to conventional diesel. In addition, storage is simpler because HVO has a shelf life of up to 10 years, and is biodegradable and non-toxic. However, HVO is more expensive per litre than conventional diesel, making it more practical for some operators to blend HVO with diesel, or only use HVO in some situations. For example, an operator could commit to one tank of HVO a month, or use HVO in congested areas to reduce air pollution. Using Neste MY Renewable Diesel™, the township is projected to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by up to 75% compared to fossil diesel. 🌱 The transition was seamless, with no need for new fueling infrastructure or modifications to the fleet. New Post: Bio-Based Diesel Fuels Deliver Largest Carbon Emission Reductions for CA Transportation Sector - https://lnkd.in/eyJw8KqZ to new data gathered by the California Air Resources Board‘s (CARB) Low Carbon Fuel Standard program, bio-based diesel fuels like Neste MY Renewable Diesel™ deliver the state’s biggest reduction in carbon emissions for the transportation sector. In 2018, the use of these bio-based fuels reduced 4.3 million tons of carbon dioxide in California. This amount surpassed the reduction from ethanol for the first time since the program started in 2011. In that time renewable diesel and biodiesel have reduced CO2 emissions by over 18 million tons. Neste MY Renewable Diesel is a low-carbon fuel produced from 100% renewable and sustainable raw materials, primarily wastes and residues. […]
