Preventing domestic violence requires a comprehensive approach that involves education, community engagement, and support systems. Here are some humanized strategies to address this issue: Education and Awareness School Programs: Integrate topics on healthy relationships, empathy, and conflict resolution into school curriculums from an early age. Public Campaigns: Use media to spread awareness about the signs of domestic violence and available resources for help. Workshops and Training: Provide workshops for community members, professionals, and law enforcement on how to recognize and respond to domestic violence. Community Involvement Community Centers: Create safe spaces where individuals can discuss their experiences and seek help. Support Networks: Develop local support groups for survivors and their families to share experiences and coping strategies. Hello! As some of you may have heard, VSS was recently awarded a JAG grant that is providing us with the funding to build a new program called the Community Support Program (CSP). In order to meet the needs of the community we serve, we are looking for some feedback through a quick questionnaire we have created. The purpose of the questionnaire is to gather useful and valuable information regarding the CSP which is intended to reach victims of violent crime and offer them resources such as support groups and retreats to aid in the navigation of trauma and the facilitation of deep healing. Your input with this questionnaire will help us obtain an idea of direction for these new programs as we aim to provide to the best of our ability. Working with youth is crucial in shifting attitudes towards violence and disrespect. It is essential to address violence and inappropriate behavior seriously, calling it out and explaining why it is unacceptable. My presentation highlights the impact of violence on others and the lasting trauma it causes. Perpetrators often use violence to feel empowered and in control. To combat this behavior, we must help them understand the fear and chaos they impose on their victims. Is it 'Banter' or is it 'Bullying'? The Anti-Bullying Alliance, in collaboration with Nottingham Trent University, conducted research on banter and bullying in UK schools. A survey of nearly 900 teachers revealed that 26% consider banter a serious issue in their schools, but 84% received no training to address it. The lack of training makes it challenging for teachers to discern when banter becomes bullying. Martha Evans, the Director of the Anti-Bullying Alliance, emphasises the importance of understanding banter, its role in bullying, and provides key elements for educators to identify when banter may cross the line. The article encourages reflection on the meaning of banter and suggests strategies to address it. Domestic violence is a generational problem. The evidence points out that children who grow up in families with domestic violence are highly likely to become either victims or perpetrators of violence. A boy growing up in a home where domestic violence transpires is 5 times more likely to perpetuate that same violence that he witnessed, once he is an adult. Our school- and college-based awareness programmes are designed to fit the local context and messages are delivered in an age-appropriate manner on a range of topics such as the effects of domestic violence, recognising the signs of domestic abuse, laws of domestic violence, dating violence, healthy relationships, responsible decision-making and how to help themselves and others. The photo is of a recent school programme conducted. We have conducted over 3,000 school & college-based outreach programmes, reaching 1,17,354 boys and girls.
