Fresh off NAB2024! What a whirlwind of innovation! It was fantastic reconnecting with colleagues and friends, and the energy around the future of AI was inspiring. My takeaways: Seeing AI in Action: The expo showcased some incredible real-world applications of AI across various industries - hardware and software. It's amazing to see how this technology is transforming businesses. Learning from the users and Experts: The valuable panels and discussions provided insights into the future of software and workflows with AI. It was fascinating to hear about the visions different leaders have for this powerful tool. Impossible to attend all of the talks which happened all at once. The Power of Prompts: A major recurring theme: the importance of mastering the art of prompting for generative image creation. We all have to be expert prompters! The new tools available in this field are simply mind-blowing. The possibilities for creative expression and problem-solving are endless! And let's not forget the amazing dinners – Las Vegas truly is a haven for foodies! Plus, catching a show at The Sphere was an unforgettable experience. Over the past two weeks, I've had the incredible opportunity to attend #CUI2024, #ICTIR2024, and #SIGIR2024 in part due to the generous support of NorwAI, the University of Stavanger, and SIGIR. First, a warm welcome from the HCI community at #CUI2024. It was interesting to gain new insights into my research and to learn the language and codes of this community. My main key takeaway is the importance of tailoring presentations to audiences unfamiliar to me. I hope to have the opportunity to apply this lesson in future talks, perhaps at #CUI2025? Long story short, I got fresh perspectives on my work, user studies and conversational AI, along with valuable new connections. Next, I joined fellow IAI members at #ICTIR2024 and #SIGIR2024. There were many engaging talks and discussions. A few personal key takeaways: - More and more work suggesting to involve humans in the loop when using LLMs for annotation and evaluation - Enlightening talks relating to fairness and explainability - More work involving user simulation and a great workshop on this topic Sim4IA A proud moment was receiving the Best Paper Honorable Mention Award at #ICTIR2024 for my collaborative work with Krisztian Balog. Looking forward to continuing some of the conversations started at these conferences! And always open to start new ones.
