Nice writeup on Denver and their Climate Action Sustainability and Resiliency Office from Justin R. Wolf. These efforts from cities are really challenging. At the center of public funding, infrastructure, climate objectives and discourse are real planning requirements and budgets. In order to create a higher quality of life for its residents, the city of Boise, Idaho, has committed itself to taking action to address climate change issues. The city made a bold goal in 2021 to be carbon neutral by 2050. This includes having 100% clean electricity for the city’s government facilities by 2030; being carbon neutral for the city’s government facilities and operations, as well as 100% clean electricity for the community by 2035; and finally having a carbon neutral Boise community by 2050. https://lnkd.in/gMDanemZ

Over the past few years, there’s been talk of efforts by governments and companies to reduce their carbon emissions. A movement to divest from fossil fuels has even begun. However, today, all over the world, we remain concerned about the consequences of the climate crisis and the slow and not necessarily just energy transition. The urgency of the climate crisis has been exploited by companies and investors to finance green energy, though too often they end up injecting money into false climate solutions and greenwashing to clean up the images of companies that continue to pollute as much or worse than before. That’s why at Empower we’ve undertaken the task of investigating and following the money of those responsible for large renewable energy projects that, far from being a solution, often end up damaging people and planet even more.
