Equal access, equal opportunities, and a truly level playing field... the International Inclusive Keelboat Championship (31st Sep - 3rd Oct 2024 at Rutland Sailing Club) is the first event of its kind! #InclusiveSailing increases opportunities for participation in international-level sailing events; specifically for sailors whose disability does not meet the Para Classification ‘Minimal Disability’ (MD) criteria. Teams of 4-5 sailors will compete in RS21s and a minimum of 2 sailors from each team are able to self-certify that they sail with a disability that impacts their day-to-day lives. The Inclusion Championships will take place at the same time as the 2024 RS Venture Connect World Championship, which features a World Sailing sanctioned ‘Para’ category. This combination - which features classifications so virtually any sailor can compete - makes it the first of its kind; a truly inclusive unified event. Is this year's Tour de France effectively ruined? Or did it just get so much more exciting? We've all heard about the crash at stage 4 of the Itzulia Basque Country. There was a lot of talk about the crash itself and how it was broadcast. I've read various arguments and I don't know what to think. So let's move on… Broadcast ethics aside, let's not forget that the crash involved Jonas Vingegaard and Remco Evenpoel, 2 of the top contenders in this year's Tour de France. They're out for 10 weeks. Wout was injured a week earlier (for 8 weeks). And as they race (quite literally) to get back to form and training, I can't stop myself from wondering: will this make the Tour de France less exciting? Not long ago we were wondering what's going to happen when we pitch Pogi, Evenpoel, Vingegaard and Roglic against each other. There was even talk that Pogi is doing Giro to win it and TdF just to show himself. Now the stage 4 crash has changed everything. Will Vingegaard and Evepoel be able to build the sort of form that can put pressure on Pogacar at TdF? Will Wout be back in shape for the Giro? I don't know what to think. Maybe this will even the odds. Maybe this will make the riders even more motivated to push the limits. But maybe it will also make them risk more… Will the TdF be more exciting? Or is it a foregone conclusion that Pogi will win? Or will we see someone else emerge and get into the fight? Maybe Tom Pidcock? What do you think? #cycling #questions #tourdefrance

Mindset and mood are key!  Team XPD holland, participating in the Adventure Race World Championships (ARWC), are still going strong. They are now 76hours into the race and covered approx. 316k (136k on foot and 180k on their bike).    The footage attached to this message is shot at Transition Area (TA) 2 after a bike ride of 180k with 2421m in altitude. They spend 17 hours on their bike, non-stop during outraging temperatures of approx. 40 degrees. Teams even stopped to bath themselves in pools of mud to cool down. At the moment of the footage they covered about 30 percent of the total race distance and clearly suffered from the last leg.    Although teams face very challenging circumstances the question is how they cope with it. The mindset and mood within team is crucial to achieve a full course finish. Are you enjoying the race despite the circumstance or are you enjoying the race because of the challenging circumstances? Are you able to put the pain and suffering into perspective and divide the immense distances into manageable and achievable targets? Are you still making jokes? Are you able to stay focused while your body and mind only want one thing: Sleep.    Knowing this, you might want to look back at the movie. How does the team influence their mindset and mood?    By now we are almost two days later and they have had to deal with a complete change of weather. From immense heat to storm and lots of rain. In an hour I hope to see footage of the team at TA3. I am curious to see the mood after this extreme stage.    By the way, mindset and mood are not only an important factor in Adventure Racing ;). The Technique of… & The Spirit of… In a sport like whitewater canoe slalom, where the goal is to navigate the challenging obstacles and moves on non-stop river rapids for speed and accuracy, it’s not a bad idea to lean into “The Feel” of the river. To feel the energy beneath you and process these movements so that you can make better choices and ultimately achieve better outcomes. When I wrote my own book, Slalom. I did a deep dive into this “feel” and how it transfers beyond the river to work and life. But, we can easily get lost in “The Feel” - where the search for better lacks clarity, focus, and process. To improve our sense of feel asks for a structure that brings order to the art. Not unlike the way a map and compass to give us information and feedback on an open-ended journey. I am beyond happy for Guillermo Diez-Canedo OLY - an Olympian, Canoe Slalom High Performance Director for Spanish Canoeing, and now author of the new and definitive guide for the technical aspects of whitewater canoe slalom - in SPANISH! Not only are the photos, graphics, and layout are outstanding but Guille has brought tangible and proven structures and tools to the unique spirit of athleticism and coaching associated with whitewater canoe slalom. Such a rich resource has never before been published in Spain but Guille’s book is going to do amazing things for the sport much further beyond this country. As the the Canoe Slalom events at the Pan American Games in Chile get underway on a river I use to train on nearly 30 years ago, I can’t help to think how useful this resource like will be in developing athletes and coaches throughout the Americas. Even thinking about the evolving nature of the United States since I moved away more than six years ago, the diversification of the sport will be well served by this book at paddlesports Institutions like RIVERSPORT Adventures and the Nantahala Outdoor Center.
