Question... what would be your thoughts on the concept of having a video version of your own CV? The video would present yourself talking on camera where you could show text summaries that you discuss and/or past project images etc. Would such a video CV be a benefit to finding your next role or possibly a hindrance? Please let me know in the comments but my initial pros and cons might include: Pros, the perspective employer or contract hirer would see and hear about your skills and experience in your own words whilst also getting to know your character. Cons, you would need the skills to pull off a quality video with good editing etc. Depending on your comments, I will create such a video and include it in my profile. I may also, depending on your comments, offer such a service, here on LinkedIn.

I have had a lot of people reach out to me recently asking me to review their materials. If you are going to put a place of work on your CV then tell the reader what you did there. Do not simply say reviewed and negotiated various corporate documents - that makes me guess what kind of documents you have seen, did you actually draft them? Tell me what kind of documents you reviewed and negotiated (including but not limited to...and actually list them!). Every single word should count. If it is on your CV it should mean something. Research, draft, negotiate, manage, oversee, prepare....all great ways to start telling the reader what you actually do, don't make the reader guess, tell them, this is your chance!

You can write your résumé yourself. Yes, I, a professional résumé writer, just said that you can write your résumé yourself, and I genuinely meant it. You can write your LinkedIn profile, cover letters, thank-you notes, and networking scripts yourself, too.
