Technology creates tremendous income inequality. If a startup succeeds, the founders and employees become enormously wealthy. To be clear, the aggregate amount of value created in the world is even larger than what the company captures, so we're undeniably better off as a society. But because of the insane leverage of technology, a lot of the wealth accrues to a select few people. The consequence of this dynamic is that we all know people who are much more successful than us, or at least we feel that way. (e.g. all Nvidia employees who joined 5+ years ago!) Jensen Huang, the visionary founder-CEO of #Nvidia, epitomizes a relentless work ethic that extends far beyond the typical nine-to-five. At 61 years old and at the helm of a $3 #trillion company, Huang's commitment to his craft is unparalleled. "I'm working from the moment I wake up until I go to bed, seven days a week. When I’m not working, I’m thinking about working. And when I’m working, I’m all in," Huang shared candidly during a conversation with Stripe CEO Patrick Collison. Despite his rigorous schedule, Huang cherishes his morning routine, accommodating his beloved dogs. "I used to wake up at 5 am, but these days, I wake up at 6 am because of my #dogs... I don't mind waking anybody up, but I feel guilty when I wake the puppies up," he humorously remarked. Ranked as the 14th richest person globally, with a staggering net worth of $105.8 billion, Huang's journey as one of tech's longest-serving CEOs is a testament to his unwavering dedication. "Some people believe the best jobs are the ones that bring you happiness all the time," Huang mused. "But when you want to build something great, it's not easy. And when you're doing something that's not easy, you're not always enjoying it." His philosophy challenges the notion that every moment of work must be joyful. Instead, he finds fulfillment in the continuous pursuit of #excellence, stating, "I don't love every day of my job, not every day brings me joy; nor does joy have to be the definition of a good day... but I love the company every single second." This is the time of year when I have a few "Woe is Me" conversations with founders:   😥 "It's so hard" 🤷♂️ "It's not our fault" 👻 "Well, we'll try" 😿 "No one wants our product" There's always some truth in this, especially how hard it is. Every founder that is successful knows how hard it is.  Heck, the CEO of $1 Trillion+ Nvidia recently said he wouldn't be a founder if he had it to do all over again! Yes, it's hard. It's just, the ones that feel sorry for themselves -- those ones never make it. Not in my experience at least.   1️⃣ If that's you, first, sort of keep it to yourself. Being vulnerable has its place, but not if it demotivates the team. I've been there myself, and felt it was almost hopeless -- with both my startups. I shared those feelings with my cofounders, and a very old friend. But that was about it. 2️⃣ Second, pick yourself up off the ground and -- Stop. Stop Feeling Sorry For Yourself. It's OK for a week or two, but it doesn't help after that. Even if you have to act a bit -- and CEOs always have to act a bit -- act more confident. Show everyone the way. If you do, you might just be surprised that not only do they follow. But they find a way to make it happen. 3️⃣ And third, stretch your cash. Find a way. You can't make radical changes in just a few months. You always need 14-18 months to fully execute a plan in SaaS. Find a way.

Yesterday, April 1 (not a April’s Fool’s day joke) marked my last day at Dell… I am incredibly grateful to the teams and individuals who collaborated with me during my journey at Dell. Together, we made Dell an AI leader, continued to strengthen the product security for our customers, added focus internally and externally on AIOps/Monitoring and optimized the best systems management tools. Additionally, most of this work was done horizontally across most of Dell’s Infrastructure Solutions. Horizontal product platform enabling is a necessary element to any broad product portfolio and our Dell teams did and do it with collaboration, focus and expertise. What’s next? My whiteboard is now white and open and ready for scribbling, editing, and colorful art! I am spending some time advising and coaching startups, SMB and individuals.
