Please help end people dying from preventable deaths. I’m supporting the #NoMoreDeaths campaign and calling on the government to follow up on life-saving recommendations made by Coroners inquests ro prevent future deaths. Currently there is no oversight or enforcement of recommendations with regards to the failing identified of services during Coroners inquests. In fact, many organisations, including the Kent and Medway NHs trust and Kent County Council, in the case of our 15 year old son, Stefan’s death, don’t even bother replying fully, honestly or within timescales, to formal letters, written to them by the Coroner which has identified failings. It is little wonder, they treat it as the joke it is, as such recommendations from the coroner are not worth the paper they are written on, and public authorities know this and are not held to account for there actions or lack of them, This is astonishing in these times of transparency and accountability. Hundreds of life-saving recommendations are made every year, yet children and adults continue to die preventable deaths. Yes advocacy does matter Sara Dado, LCSW !! The issue of medical surrogacy and power of attorney often comes in to play in our practice of patient advocacy. It causes delays in our abilities to provide services to our Clients, as we are not the decision makers, rather we work alongside the decision maker, as part of their team. Great to see Liam McArthur in The Times talking about his trip to California, to explore how their assisted dying law for the terminally ill has been working since it started in 2016. The law is similar to that we are hoping to introduce in Scotland: for terminally ill, mentally competent adults only. Some key findings: --There has been no evidence of misuse of the law, and its provisions have not been extended. (No "slippery slope.") --A *third* of patients approved for assisted dying don't take the option. The peace of mind has a tangible palliative effect. --The vast majority of patients don't opt for assisted dying in place of palliative care but use aid-in-dying as part of their palliative care. --Medical professionals without exception emphasised that, in Liam's words, "patients are not choosing between life and death: their illness has taken that choice away. The newly signed legislation represents the most significant congressional action in decades to fight Parkinson’s and related disorders. Under the new law: ➤ The Department of Health and Human Services must implement and update a national plan for Parkinson's disease, enhancing prevention, diagnosis, treatment, care, and annual assessments of preparedness.
