Congratulations to Madeline Heiar, RN at our Denver - Midtown clinic, for being a 2023 DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses recipient! Madeline was nominated last year by a patient who wanted to recognize her for the outstanding care she has provided. Here is what one of her patients had to say about her: "Although Madeline is relatively new to the Midtown RMCC, she has distinguished herself as a nurse I look forward to having for my immunotherapy treatments. She is kind, efficient, and a wonder to behold juggling all of her patients. She made an effort to get to know me as an individual and always remembers to ask me about what has happened in my life since I last saw her. She is skillful at her profession and I can honestly say I never feel the prick from her readying the IV. Other mentions should go to her co-worker, Bailey, who in addition displays the same excellent care that I have come to receive in treating my cancer. Also, the nursing supervisor, Hannah, who always has a kind word. They all feel like family and make my trips to RMCC Midtown something I can look forward to with joy. Having my wife's experiences, who is also in the healthcare industry, allows me to appreciate Madeline even more for her skill and compassion. Thanks for allowing me a forum to express my gratitude for her care."

Nursing Inova Health System is simply the best
I am so appreciative of the Inova Nursing Research Fellows experience this year. Our team became the first Ambulatory nursing team to complete this fellowship. Our study analyzed the knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, barriers, and confidence of clinicians in assessing Social Determinants of Health. We shared our findings at the Inova Nursing Research Symposium on October 20th. We were also invited to share our findings through a podium presentation for the AAACN Conference in April 2024. Thank you, Elyssa Wood, for the mentorship with the research and abstract submission. Congratulations team!!! Carla Parker, Beth Harkness, Aisha Keplinger, and Heather Whyte.

If I ask this question, how will they react? ⁉ Is there a chance they will respond in a way that makes me feel incompetent, embarrassed or inferior? If I talk about a mistake, error or failure, will I be reprimanded? Will others view or treat me differently? Will they question my abilities, judgement? Will I be blamed? If I offer an opinion that differs from the majority, will it be shut down? If I share my honest concerns about an idea or plan that my boss has proposed, how will they react? How have they responded in the past? Is there a chance they will be upset? Is there a chance they will view or treat me differently/unfavorably? These questions and thoughts come up for every single one of us. Not just once in a while -- but daily. And how we respond directly influences our organizational engagement and ability to communicate, learn, collaborate, innovate and advance. For those of us in healthcare, how psychologically safe we feel directly influences our ability to provide high quality and safe patient care. On Monday, come join me for an interactive "coffee chat" ☕ ❤️ to explore what psychological safety is, why it matters and what we can do to cultivate it. Thank you Society of Pediatric Nurses for the opportunity to present on such an important topic!
The pediatric nursing workforce has faced unprecedented challenges over the past several years. While it may seem obvious that nurses play a pivotal role in a patient becoming a stroke survivor vs. a stroke victim, studies have uncovered even more evidence to support not only an association, but clearly a correlation in the presence and competence of the nurse in your care team as your overall ultimate key to survival. From the moment your brain attack hits all the way to the moment you hope to proclaim yourself survivor, the impact our sharp assessment skills and quick, intuitive intervention continues to show itself paramount to our stroke patients’ outcomes. Check out the evidence this article uncovers showing the increased significance each and every role your nurse plays in the stroke care continuum. Yes, it’s chilling to think such responsibility and influence lies in s certain roles’ “hands”, per se, and BELIEVE ME, we as nurses take this responsibility as a privilege and an obligation to procure the experience, expertise, and up to date certifications necessary to maximize the difference we can make together as a team for our patients and their families. NIHSS certification has practically become the new BLS for any nurse working in a demographic that may include stroke victims. Be proud of the difference you make, nurses, and hold yourself accountable for the incredible impact you have every step of the way. If we, or anyone, can make this kind of difference in a patients life through giving them the most competent practice available, there is HOPE! 🕊️ https://lnkd.in/gyUt_QBb

15% Off Pediatric Care: MCOs' 'Special' Way Of Saying Thanks For All The Checkups! Pediatric practices continue to grapple with Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) and several Medicaid programs aiming to decrease payments for services provided by "Advanced Practice Health Care Providers," like nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Amid predictions of an increase in the number of non-physician providers in pediatric care in the coming years, there's an increasing fear that such payment policies will jeopardize the financial health of pediatric practices nationwide. A prime example is United Healthcare's published national policy to cut 15% off the contracted allowed amounts for non-physician services. Conceptually, this reduction is often inaccurately applied across all components of a CPT code, ignoring the distinctions between provider's education & training (wRVU), practice operational costs (peRVU), and medical malpractice costs mRVU). By not confining such discounts solely to the work component of the individual CPT code (wRVU), MCOs and Medicaid plans effectively undermine their own rationale for payment cuts. The repercussions of such over-reaching reductions could endanger the financial viability of pediatric practices, potentially jeopardizing the quality of healthcare for children for many years to come.
