Today, we've announced some pioneering new projects funded through our £1 million Plan A Accelerator Fund. Working with our partners and suppliers these new innovations will help achieve our goals to be Net Zero by 2040. We've also invested £1 million working with our 40 M&S Select Dairy Farmers to reduce the amount of methane released into the atmosphere by pasture-grazed cows. This UK first-to-market initiative will remove a projected 11,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions from the atmosphere annually, cutting the carbon footprint of M&S’ core range of RSPCA-assured fresh milk by 8.4%, with no compromise on taste or quality. Lovely dinner with the board of the andGreen Fund , with great people like former prime minister Helen Clark Per Fredrik Ilsaas Pharo Sabine Miltner Claudia Arango Felia Salim Lucian Peppelenbos Nanno Kleiterp Michael Schlup Back in 2017, when still at IDH we incorporated the fund together with Nicfi, the forest arm of Norad - Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation . The premise was that through finance, we could decouple commodity production like palm, soy & cattle from tropical deforestation. Now, 6 years later we conclude it works!. We have funded over 300 million USD in large production companies on the ground and thus saving millions of hectares of forest. And the fund is making healthy returns. Business and finance can be a force for good if properly structured. The next step is scale. We need to overcome the tough institutional hurdles that goes together with #blendedfinance. Government donors find it scary to deploy their subsidies in private settings. And institutional investors are similarly shying away from government involvement in financial set-ups. And then there is all the ESG compliance which makes financial institutions so risk averse they dont want to touch anything that is even remotely connected to a tropical forest. But we make it work! We are excited to announce today that we have joined forces with the Swedish pension fund Andra AP-fonden (AP2) to systematically identify #deforestation exposure in global portfolios and to make deforestation #duediligence practical and workable🌳 🏦 . Through the collaboration, we will assess and combine existing (data) resources to create a publicly accessible workflow to be tested and applied to AP2's holdings in listed equities. Thereby, we aim to 1️⃣ highlight how far practitioners get with existing resources for deforestation due diligence and 2️⃣ pinpoint any apparent gaps. Our Analyst Malte Hessenius emphasises in our joint press release: "Through our collaborative approach, we offer investors clear guidance on systematically identifying potential exposure to deforestation.
