It all began in April 1984. With a small desk in a tiny bedroom at a cottage, a wooden chair, some blue paper and a travel typewriter, Jan Erik Vinnem, a Dr. in Engineering with five years of experience, including from what was then Statoil (now Equinor), started Safetec's history. The very first assignment that Vinnem was given was to prepare a manual for risk analyses for Statoil. After this first milestone, several important projects followed. Risk analyses for the Heidrun platform and concept risk analysis for Veslefrikk were among them. A result of over 6 years of a successful Joint Industry Project between OneSubsea, TotalEnergies, Equinor, Wintershall, Var Energi, OMV, Norwegian Research Council and Aker BP. Thank you to All our partners for the invaluable technical and financial contribution. The system is fully tested and integrated to a subsea Vertical Xmas tree.  This advancement elevated the technology maturity to level 5, as per API 17N standards. OneSubsea all-electric system empowers data-driven decisions, boosting reliability and availability. Plus, it enables unlocking energy at deeper and longer step out fields. The technology is a sustainability game-changer with reduced system CAPEX investment. The future is here, and we're set to drive the new subsea era. Safe, profitable, sustainable, and with purpose.   We therefore see our work in the Upstream area of Repsol and that is how we conveyed it to our United States #team in the town hall we held at our Houston offices some days ago, during which I had the chance to share with them the objectives we have set ourselves for the immediate future and the strategy and investments we will roll out to achieve them.   The first and most important of them all, the production of 100,000 new barrels in the next four years, for which we will invest 10 billion dollars. But also new low-carbon projects, such as the Carbon Capture and Storage project that we are projecting in the region. Both projects are the reflection of the Company’s vision of the Upstream area: on the one hand, an essential asset to continue supplying the hydrocarbons that society demands. On the other hand, a key pillar in the company’s #energytransition process that, through #innovation, also contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions in the atmosphere.   But as I have already said before, these events go well beyond figures and plans, they are also a chance to respond to the team’s concerns, solve their doubts, and share with them the motivation that this very exciting moment of change that we are experiencing represents.   Success is achieved by working in the long term and with firm steps. And this town hall has undoubtedly been one of them. Thanks to everyone who has taken part!

As part of our plans for significant international expansion, we launched Viper Innovations Inc., a US-based corporation in June 2023. This launch provides the foundation for significant expansion in one of the world's key subsea energy markets. Houston-based Jamie Carrig was appointed as President, with plans for more regional recruits to support the key functions required to continue Viper’s exceptional service. Following this launch, Operators in North America have benefitted from Viper’s V-LIFE insulation resistance (IR) recovery technology in a number of locations across the continent, with a major Operator now leading the charge in the Gulf of Mexico. Our latest case study looks at how V-LIFE was used to avoid a threat to continued production of a subsea production control system, resulting in a 200 times increase in insulation resistance (IR) within a week. Six months later, the channel continues to provide strong and consistent IR results, providing a value-added solution. When the UK government imposed an additional tax levy on oil and gas producers early in 2023, several operators responded by cancelling drilling activities. Apache UK was amongst the most vocal in imposing an immediate stop to drilling on their Forties and Beryl assets. In this talk, David Moseley, explores the consequences of no further drilling activity at these fields, both of which continue, for now at least, to form important production hubs. He will also discuss the impact of bringing COP forward on both the fields themselves and upside in their catchment areas. Included will be a review of the Forties pipeline throughput to place into context the recent announcement that the Grangemouth terminal is set for closure. A Strategic Plan review requires us to step back and look at our remit with fresh eyes. Australia’s energy system is changing. Our industry has expanded its focus beyond oil and gas exploration and development to cover lower-carbon fuels and net zero technologies. Our new 2024-2026 Strategic Plan responds to these changing needs and contains a vision for our industry that will guide our future actions. And yet - while some things are changing, some things remain the same. As our industry continues to evolve, our Guiding Principles and Our Commitments remain unchanged from those upon which we were established. These principles are shared, individually and collectively, by all our member companies, members of our Safety Leaders Group, our Working Groups, and our Support Team staff. We remain resolute in Our Commitment: “Together we seek to prevent harm to our frontline workers by simplifying, standardising and sharing”. Safer Together plays an important role in defining how we move our industry forward. Active collaboration and participation by all companies working in our industry will be key to building a community of safety leaders, that together create a safer Australian Energy Production Industry.
