Since 2019, Lebanon is facing very difficult and exceptional circumstances that were further exacerbated by an ongoing catastrophic economic and financial crisis. The Lebanese health system is one of the most affected sectors by the current crisis, and basic health services have become almost unaffordable for large numbers of individuals. Under such dark circumstances, the public's need for free Emergency Medical Services (EMS) became of greater necessity. Expanding the coverage of these services and increasing their numbers are urgently needed. We are launching an appeal to support our emergency medical services in Lebanon in 2024. The needs that will be covered by your donations include emergency medical services, equipment of first aid bags, equipment of emergency medical technicians, and first aid awareness courses. “I left the hospital in extreme danger as bullets flew past the buildings,” Doctor Luc of State University of Haiti Hospital said. The crisis in Haiti weighs heavy on our hearts. Armed gangs have ravaged hospitals, leaving millions without care. Stories like Dr. Luc's remind us of the urgency. But amid darkness, there's hope. As of January 13, community health centers in La Gonâve had benefited from medical equipment, medicine, and inputs. The hospital currently operates an oxygen production center that can meet the needs of the hospital and outlying hospital centers. On this World Health Day, we remain committed to expanding healthcare access to children and vulnerable people in crisis in Haiti and around the world. The economic crisis in Lebanon is preventing the population from accessing healthcare services. The devaluation of the local currency and the spiraling inflation have led to an increase in the prices of essential goods, including medications and medical equipment. Hospital charges have gradually increased over the period of the crisis, but they have been dollarized starting last week. At the same time, salaries are still stagnant and paid in LBP, making them significantly less valuable. According to UNICEF (2022), more than 50% of the population can't afford their required medications, and 34% of children cannot access healthcare. In response to the presented situation, the Lebanon Emergency Medical Fund (LEMF) campaign has been launched. The outcome of this campaign will help secure a medication, ensure the cost of a lifesaving surgery, or simply enhance someone’s access to healthcare. Any amount you pay is going to count a lot for patients who are struggling in hospitals or even those who need to be there but can’t afford it.
